Trying to get my speedo to work and am going through the FSM.

It was a pain in the ass until I figured out that the ECU pinout in the FSM is different from the S13 SR ECU.

In the FSM the speed sensor is pin 53 and pin 32 for S13 ECU btw.

Anyways I tried to check the voltage from the ECU connector and could only achieve .6 volts not changing. So I figured either the VSS is bad or there is a short. I can't pull the sensor tonight so I am checking for a short. As I was following the wire from the speed sensor I saw this connector coming out of the harness and wasn't sure what it was for. It is yellow with a green stripe like the speed sensor so maybe it needs to be plugged in?

I can't see if the wire runs directly to the connector because they both go into the harness.

I just looked again and the wires running from the VSS are green/orange and black wtf? I am so lost

UPDATE- Alright so I just went ahead and tried the volt meter on the wire running directly from the VSS and I got a fluctuation in volts when I spun the tire so I know the VSS is good. Means there must be a short or something somewhere, is there a way I can just bypass the ECU and everything and run it straight to the Speedo? Really wanna get this working

I just wired my sensor last night. I tried every wire to go straight to the ecu that related to speed sensor and nothing worked you have to wire vss to the factory plug. What harness are you using, my 92 harness had that plug with two yellows one w/ black one w/ blue. That gets plugged to VSS.

I am unsure what harness, I had bought the car from a local. The car is a 89 but I doubt that matters.

My VSS sensor has a green/orange striped then the other is a black, it just runs into the harness and I can't see where it ends up.

Not sure what plugs go where.

I found this thread and was going to try to hard wire it to the cluster.

thats a waste of time. its hard to tell from you pic but near the starter is were the trans vss harness gets connected, 2 yellow - could be different colors - with same plug as in the pic. wire from vss, clip the plug off and wire them together. there is no polarity so no + or -. Try that if that don't work buy a new vss or cluster.

So if I understood that correctly, clip off that plug I posted a picture of and just run the 2 wires from the VSS to it?

that is correct
