Is it normal for the Con rods to have slight play, side to side when still installed?
My Old (#2 rod Bearing kaput) block before removing everything had some play side to side, and after looking at my Fresh New Block - Its the same way.I would guess its Play for Oil & oil Pressure to Live but wanna make sure??

I wouldn't think that's normal. If you had taken it to a machine shop they would know. I don't know much about the bottom end in terms of clearances but I wouldn't think there should be any visible play within the parts.

The rod should smoothly slide side to side ever so slightly. The piston centers the rod on its journal and the clearance is for oil.
The important thing here is that the rod bearing clearance is within spec. Standard: 0.004mm - 0.022mm with the limit of 0.050mm. plasti-gauge is ok to use since most people do not have the proper gauges to measure these parts.

The spec you are refering to is "rod side clearance" This is measured by pushing it all the way to one side and sliding a feeler gauge between the cap and the crank. It is not "critical".

Well I wasn't going to "open" this Block up so measuring Rod/bearing clearance is a No go $$$ wise (no money to replace stuff while I'm in there).I know it was running and Running strong when it was taken apart and sold for parts, etc.
Block is still factory Sealed and SUPER CLean.
Well i noticed this one was that way and the one I had w/ a bad bearing.Just wanted to make sure.

A Friend had an Old Block that was Fully Loaded (thats was prev,1 of my Best friends) that was Perfect and Running when he Removed it.
We know its His because of some markings on it,PE headgasket and oil Filter that was Still on it.
SO Checking it while it was spun upside down on the Engine stand...the Rods have a tiny play side to side..similar to my Bad Blocks, before I removed the Rods and pistons.
I would Imagine its Normal seeing as 2 blocks are the exact same?

yes, its normal. on a block that spun a bearing on me, the rod with the spun bearing actually didnt move, and all the others did.
