View Full Version : Oil pressure issues?

Hey, first off, my engine is making a sort of rattling noise that I can't seem to diagnose. It began doing it when I first started her up after completing a 5 speed swap. After trying to figure it out I noticed that when I remove my crankcase cap, oil doesn't shoot out like it used to. (I'm not sure if that's an issue or not)

Does this sound like an oil pressure problem causing the ticking/rattling? If so, how would I be able to fully diagnose the problem being related to oil pressure? And could I have caused these problems during the 5 speed swap? (like I said, before the swap it was fine and when I started it back up after the swap I noticed the noise)

Any help is appreciated. (S13 KA24DE)

Get an oil pressure gauge...

No clue why it would do it after a 5 speed swap...might be just coincident...

Noise could be loose flywheel bolts, but wouldn't affect oil pressure.

Low oil pressure + rattle = rod knock, but that wouldn't be caused by a 5spd swap.

I'm aware the 5 speed swap wouldn't have had a direct effect but I was just wondering if anything I did during the process had caused me to lose oil pressure. I'm pretty sure it isn't rod knock (yet) because like I said, its started doing this right after the first start up. And we torqued the flywheel bolts to spec. Plus, it sounds as if it is coming from the motor, specifically the valve train. (maybe the timing chain?)
