Ok guys, i'm beggining to tear my motor down to the bare block to have it rebuilt. I have some goals in mind, i want a really reliable 360 Horsepower that i can use everyday on california piss gas. so here's what i'm thinking, let me know if you have any suggestions on my part list or whatever. This is all for an s13sr20det

Block:
machine and balance rotating assembly
wiesco pistons - or oem ones
new rings
new bearings

head:
machined and tanked
HKS cams, not sure what kind to get yet
BC springs and retainers
the rest of the head OEM new parts with a metal headgasket.

Turbo:
gt2871r

What i'm looking for is your imput on what parts i should use for my goal to have it reliable. I will be doing all the work myself. Thank you.

shit. for a sec i thought it was going to be a ka24e build but with all the hks, BC springs, it sounds like an SR

Some things to add and consider.

Block:
have it decked (unless that's what you mean by machine)
line honed (MANY people over look this procedure)
crank clearances checked and bearings to match
polish crank
hot tanked (since you only listed it on the head)

If you're going to be getting after market pistons... check the rods. you might as well go after market if you're going through all of this. It would almost be dumb not to.

May as well have the head ported while you're at it.

There's no sense on going through all this work and not going all out. Take advantage of the machine work and go balls out with parts.

yeah i missed a lot of information in my first post. Both head and block will be hot tanked and all the machine shop goodness. What i'm wondering about most of all, since stock internals can handle a lot of horsepower, would it be a good idea to use new oem pistons and stuff to maybe save some money? Or just get that stuff aftermarket?

how much does that kind of machine work run? i was thinking about buying a spare ka and building it up to handle a turbo, with DD reliability.

I would do 9:1 compression if you are going with the GT2871R, especially because it is best suited for 16-20 PSI of boost maximum in T28 form.

If you would like me to do a pesonalized write up and 2-3 page consulatation which includes a direct parts seller who will give you a referral based discount send me a PM and I will see what I can do for you.

I have done this for a couple other premium members and it helped them plan their builds, saved them a lot of money in the process and helped them reach their exact goals in HIP and the type of power band they actually really wanted but didnt know it yet

I think you should get oem ones if you are planing to make around 300 but yeah you should get the best for your sr, so get some good lightweight forged parts

If your going to upgrade cams/valve springs/retainers/Valves, USE THE SAME COMPANY FOR ALL HEAD PARTS*
I have used tomei/hks/B.C on over 6 dif. sr20's and prefer Brian Crower (but to each his own). Just dont mix match shit together.

Also It would be a good Idea to Replace Valve Stem Seals while your at it.

Head:
-Brian Crower stg2 Cams/valve springs/retainers
-OEM Shims Guides/Rocker Arms/Hydrolic Lifters/Valve Stem Seals/Oil pump/water pump/full gasket kit/timing chain kit
-Tomei Rocker Arm Stopper
-Deck/Hot tank/ 3angle valve job
-Apexi Metal Head gasket

Short Block:
-OEM Pistons are cheaper but if you have cash go with Brian Crower Pistons/rods/Rings (86mm)
-ACL Race Bearings (wpc treatment is a plus)
-Re-balance Crank

I have had great success with Power Enterprise (IHI) GT25 turbos their Expensive but well worth it. Or go with Garrett GT2876R
hope this helps

For only 360 ponies, I'd keep some money and build from headgasket up and replace all maintennace parts like waterpmp, thermostat, timing chain, etc... If you really wanted to get in the block then I'd replace with oem. I don't see the point in all the expensive parts. But then, if you have the money for it, go to any store and pick. Also, that steveshadows guy seems to know his stuff as he has alot of input on this forum.
