I recently have been dealing with this issue. the issue consists of when i go to start the car in the morning, the only way to get it started is to give it full throttle while cranking it. then i must hold the idle with the gas pedal for appr. 30 seconds then the car will run fine. if i shut the car off after it has been running for a while and start it right back up, i don't have to do that. if i let the vehicle sit for a while and cool down, i have to go through that process again. if i fail to give it gas while trying to crank it when it's cold, the only way i have found to get it started after that is to disconnect the fuel injector harness, crank the car, and then it will fire up and die. then i reconnect the injector harness crank while giving full throttle hold the idle manually for 30 seconds and it runs fine again. i'm coming to the conclusion that it is flooding upon attempting to start. there is no check engine light on. it has new ignition components, such as spark plugs, cap and rotor. please help me come to a conclusion or give me something to try.

I have a very similar problem. I have a 93 dohc from a vert(auto). would a bad o2 sensor cause this?

Since both of your problems sound temperature related I'd try to replace the coolant temp sensor. It's only like a $40 part and is sensor located on the intake manifold by where the radiator connects.

The sensor tell the ECU the temperature of the coolant. The ECU injects a different amount of fuel depending on the temperature. When the engine isn't normally warmed up, the ECU injects extra fuel.

Since it sounds like the OP is having to keep his foot on the gas I'd say that the coolant temp sensor isn't worker properly causing the ECU to not inject enough fuel to keep the car running.

After 30 seconds or so, everything is nice and warm( (throttle body, intake manifold etc.) and the fuel/air aerosol much better and so the car needs less fuel to keep running.
