He says its tiny 3/8 inch wide by 3/4 inch long and you cant really tell but there is a little split pin type thing next to it. anyone recognize it? He says it dosent look as though it went through the motor at all its not chewed up or anything. the motor has been running great no problems whatsoever. AM I DOOMED?

Looks like the little arm/hook that goes on the timing chain tensioner. Take the timing chain tensioner out and check to see if its there. (that part holds the timing chain tensioner in the fully collapsed position during install)

Ahhh thanks guys! you are a life saver .. so Doomed im not :rawk:
im going to pull out the tensioner, have a look and replace it.
Can I order a tesnsioner from any sr20de like for a 1994 sentra se-r ? I am already placing an order at rockauto.. or should I get one from frsport for the sr20det ... same thing?
hmmm ... maybe ill just get a whole timing chain kit ... I usually like to take the better safe than sorry route.
Anything else to look for since that was the cause?

That hook is only used to put the tensioner back in. So if you haven’t removed it, and you don’t have a loose timing chain then really no need to replace it. Until you replace the guides and chain. IMO

I was kind of thinking the same thing ... but i dont know... Id feel better if I at least replaced the tensioner if not the whole timing chain kit.. im going to check out the timing chain and go from there.

I'd check if there is any damage to the timing chain and guides... this thing falling in the front cover could have done something bad!
