My S13 coupe (KA24de, basically stock) has been running very bad lately. I decided to putz around with a few things such as re-gapping the spark plugs (.038), making sure all air intake hoses were fine, and a few other things. I decided to take off the valve cover and take a peek inside and this is what I found:

16671

16673

16674

What the hell is wrong??? Lol, I'm hoping it's nothing too bad but any advice would be cool. Let me know if there are any other details needed. Thanks in advance.

It would help us help you if you were more in detail. Ellaborate "running very bad lately." What is it doing exactly? Bogging, sputtering, won't rev past 1k, revs all the way past redline, what?

Sorry about the vague post last night. I was in a rush to get about 10 things done at the same time and even after I read what I post I thought about how dumb it was :wtf:

The get into more detail, the car was running pretty bad. It didn't want to rev up as hard or fast as normal. It has an unsteady idle (used to stand firm at 750, now it fluctuates from 700-900). If I get on the throttle a bit it would start to buck and hate life lol. It would slowly rev up to 4500 but if I wanted more power it would make a bit of a pop sound.

The pictures are supposed to be of the spark plug holes. The first 3 look realatively clean, but the last one near the firewall is nasty looking (look at the last pic in the list).

My first thoughts were fuel injectors or spark plugs.

Also to note, awhile back, I noticed that my air intake had a hole on it where it connects to the throttle body.

If you have oil in your plug holes its prolly your valve cover gasket

edit:

do a full tune up.. plugs wires distributor rotor, see where that takes you

i'm not a ka24de guy but isnt the upper chain guide broken in half? you'll probably want to fish around your oil pan for the other half if it is :(

The chain guide was broke. It was actually (luckily) sitting right on top so i just chucked it. This was not my concern.

This week I'm going to clean everything out, get new plugs and wires and new valve cover gasket. I've done some more research since I first posted and I'm hoping a new gasket will do the trick.

Since I'm as broke as a limp dick dog I will have to wait until this weekend to buy my parts.
