How much power can a stock block and head hold on an sr20 reliably? How much boost? Also what is a good turbo for quick spool and good power? I know the specs on a 30 and 35r. 37 an 40 are too big too me. I was recently looking at an FP Big28 but dont think it will produce the power im lookin for. Any help appreciated.

Between 300-350, maybe up to 400 with a perfect tune. The first thing to go is usually the headgasket. As for boost, 15lbs? That big28 sounds good. I did a search and I think it made close to 320 on something. So get yourself a headgasket, maf, injectors, and a tune and pray to god it stays together. I've forgotten all the info on the sr, I'm running an rb now. The maf can't read past 260hp or something? Good luck.

A GT2871R is a nice turbo for a stock bottom end.
We did one of those a while back with a Power Fc and some head work.
Ran it around at 343 whp with no problems.

s14driver what power level are you wanting is what you didn't tell us?

Well i know 300+ i would be able to break out of the stock block which i would be good with. But in the long run id like a turbo big enough to make more power with good spool which the big28 wouldnt do. Id like to be at 450 in the end with potential to get 480-500 with more boost.

i have seen several completly stock long blocks with just ARP headstuds make 400-450whp... with good turbo and tune you can do it no problem...

That is on an EMS?

07-04-2009, 11:35 PM
yes on Microtec 460whp to be exact.... no cams just Freddy intake, GT30, Microtec and C16 Headstuds...
another was just headstuds T04E Freddy intake on pump gas made 360whp on flashed ECU

All has to do with your TUNING

I ran around with 500 + Brake HP (which was 420-440 WHP) on a Dyno Dynamics, STOCK Container Bottom end...thats RIGHT

I hit 500 WHP on a dynojet and the thing was SUPER reliable for 3 years, just regular oil changes

TUNING TUNING TUNING

That means not skimping on the EMS - I have tuned several SR's in the local socal area to 400-460 WHP on my Dyno Dynamics all with stock internals, all very reliable all on 91 octane!!!! which is nearly unheard of...

Recommended EMS to get the job done

Power FC, L Jetro and D Jetro
Haltech EMS

AEM is ok but I don't really like the layout, the Haltech is a much better unit once you get the hang of it

here are two 500whp+ cars on stock bottom ends

Couple 500+hp 240's on Dyno - Tampa Racing (http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/nissan-infiniti-tech/575581-couple-500-hp-240s-dyno.html)

i knew a guy running a blacktop with north of 550whp on gt35r on stock bottom end with enthalpy tune. he did so for about a year then i lost contact with him, but it ran super clean.

im running somewhere about 350whp on low boost and enthalpy tune with gt2871r, i abuse the motor like a stepchild for about 3 years now on that setup. still runs like stock.

the amount of boost you can run depends on the turbo you have. no matter what you need to beef up all gaskets and get a really good tune.

also search, all the info you need is already all over the web.

I'm actually surprised not one person came in and yelled at you to search...especially on this forum.

I think 400-500hp might be pushing it while keeping everything relatively stock...I'll let you know what I pull with s15 turbo, injectors, MAF, and power FC.

not really pushing it, with the tune in check the power is made safely.
the SR making 460whp was runnin over a year getting beat on at the track on a regular and only came out because the car was being painted.
again the tune is what will make and break a motor

Im prob gonna use the stock 28 with maf and injectors to see what i pull out at 10-12lbs. Afterward thinkin 35r. I just dont wanna crack open the block unless i have to.

if you're going 35r make sure you get big enough injectors for down the road, since you have to tune it anyway.

How is the dyno plot for these 400-500 HP?
Is the power band legit for drift??

Can you be more general?

Seriously, these are the posts that have been gone over thousands of times on several forums.

GT3071R with T28 Turbine done.

If your not willing to go that big, be prepared to be content with 300-330 whp max with other t28 variants

the big28 imo is a POS, that only tends to put out decent numbers on dynjojets and crappy hub-based dynos like dyna packs and even then the power bands arent very impressive.

Im upset i even contributed to this thread haha - but hey why not.

seriously dont be soo general
