Hi i am chris and i have a 90 hatch 240 and when i bought it i knew it had problems but now i am stuck. i dont want to take it to an electrical place and get charged up the butt. the problem is that the car drains my battery. the lights on the car are always on even when i dont have the keys in it. for example the rear tail lights are always on, the trunck light stays on and i can turn the head lights on whenever . the only solution i found was to disconect the batterty everytime i turn off the car and this tends to be a pain. i do need it as a DD. the altanator is working well and i have a brand new battery as well as new cables. there was an aftermarket alarm put in and i think that the previous owner disconected it wrong ?

there most likely is a short somewhere. it would be tough to find the short without a schematic, though first off i would look at the fuses and disconnect the fuse that goes to those said parts that stay turned on and see if they turn off. then trace that wire, if possible until you find a short somewhere. good luck. do the same for all the lights that stay on. or you can trace from the lights back to the power distribution.

remember that when you take the fuse out it will cut the power. you're not looking for blown fuses. you're looking for the fuse that cuts the power to the parts that stay on.

wait how so we remove fuse and check if the part still works and if it does thats the problem because they just told me to get a tester and check almost the same thing:ugh:

nooooo. find the fuse that correlates with that said part that stays on and that's the beginning point. trace back to both sides of the ends of wires and find where there's a mess up.

What the other guy was saying was...plug the battery back up, and pull fuses one by one till the brake lights and trunk lights shut off, I suggest you push the car near a wall so you can do this without walking back and forth...or put something big and shiny near the bumper.

Search google for a 1989-1993 wiring schematic.
