My motor mounts on my car are shot, and they need to be replaced badly. I want something that is stiff. But not so intolerable that when your car is idling that the dash and door panels are shaking.I have got many inputs from friends. The only feel of solid motor mounts i have felt are on my friends car. And thats my stock ones. His solid mounts were to much for me. Door panels and dash shaking at idle. And have been searching around. My car is my daily. But is a weekend car. Here are some of the mounts i have been considering.

Peak Performance Motor Mounts and tranny (street)

I like the look of these and they look real solid. Ive never driven on them but ive heard good things about them. My friend said there tranny mount is awesome and that what got me looking at them.

Nismo Motor Mounts.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb305/joshkl101/Nismo_3PIECEMOUNTS_1.jpg
A great deal at 200 dollars. I havent really heard alot about them. None of the people i know run them. And i really wonder how much stiffer they are versus stock. Like i want the feel of a stiff motor mount just not ridiculous.

These are the 2 sets of mounts im in debate with right now. If you have any info on these. Or use a different motor mount that you recomend please chime in. Any info is helpful.

Thanks.

i dont take any ownership of these images. Both from frsport.

lots of people run nismo motor mounts actually there's a few reviews about em i'm sure somewhere. i just found out they raise the engine a few mm, but dunno if that'll affect you. there's other mounts too, cusco, ghetto hockey pucks, etc...

yea i heard about the nismo mounts and how they raise and could affect clearance with big turbo setups.. im stock. and dont plan doing any motor work for a while. But thanks for the info.

Nismo mounts aren't worth the money in my opinion. They're just a harder rubber, but over the years they'll get just as soft as stock ones.

Peak Performance mounts are actually what I'm considering as well. Just haven't had much experience with them nor have I read sufficient reviews on the motor mounts to really make me want to buy them outright. Though they're transmission mount are definitely quality pieces as you already know.

Cusco and Kazama mounts are the same mounts as far as I know. Incredibly stiff as well.

There are these new mounts made by a new member on this forum. I believe they're called "Super Mounts" or something along those lines. There are a few members running his mounts and they seem to like them very much. He makes both solid aluminum mounts and urethane mounts. Even offers a money back guarantee (minus shipping of course).
Link: Some opinion about these Motor mounts (http://zilvia.net/f/chat/251270-some-opinion-about-these-motor-mounts.html)

Another option for those not trying to spend much is filling stock mounts with 3M Window Weld. There are a ton of people who swear by these and absolutely love them. It's an easy do it yourself mod and produces a great product in the end.

I'll be filling in my stock mounts, purchasing the "Super Mounts," and possibly even purchasing Peak Performance mounts (If I'm not completely satisfied with either) as well to give full reviews for street and whatever track time I put on them.

Thanks for the great info. You have the link to the dude who makes the Super Mounts?

The peaks are like 250. just mounts. and the tranny is like 60 bucks.
Found cuscos/kazamas for 200 for the mounts from phase2. pretty good deal.

Thats exactly what i was worried about with the nismos. Them being basically like oem replacements and not even stiff. Thanks DreamN.

^ That's what folks use. I can't share any actual insight, but many swear by the stuff for filling mounts.

nismo dont "raise" the engine, it just put the engine back in the correct position
since old OEM mounts are most likely cracked into pieces or just plain OLD, thus not supporting the engine at the right position

and aftermarket parts are modeled after engine with these old mounts....

just wanted to update this thread.

Bought cusco motor mounts and the peak tranny mount. Got the cuscos installed and i am very impressed. Very stiff, and not to much cabin vibration. The throttle response is great. Glad i got these. Thanks to FRsport for them..

How about adding urethane to Nismo's? A stiffer than stock, not as bad as solid. Its an idea I'm playing with in my head, just don't have the mounts or the urethane!

Joshkl

Why would u buy nismos then add urethane to them? might as well just urethane your stock mounts.

i got the cuscos installed. everything is great. one problem though. the position of the shifter in the interior is shifted a little to the left. Like when the car is in neutral the shifter isnt in the center. Im wondering if its cuz my tranny mount is so shot that when we jacked up the car from the tranny to lift the motor it could of shifted everything. Any ideas?

if this is a comment on using urethane/window weld on stock mounts I'd like to to know why you're against it or even if you are. post up your reasons please.

not trying to get on you or anything, but your comments aren't adding anything the discussion and seeing as I can't read your mind I'd like whatever insight you may have.

Ib, I can't believe you're against polyurethane but you're all for Delrin? It's almost identical compounds, and there's no chance of mounting bolt misalignment when starting with OEM mounts.

I've poly-filled my last few sets of OEM mounts, it offers the perfect mix of stiffness (shifter never moves, block doesn't torque when you rev it, etc) and vibration (only hear interior vibrations when the idle drops below 500 or so).

Solid bushings blow for street cars, Nismo bushings raise the engine too much, Ebay bushings are from ebay, etc, etc. Get polyurethane structural adhesive in the caulking tube, and go nuts - but clean/degrease the OEM mounts first. You'll use the entire tube doing both engine mounts and the trans mount.

[QUOTE=Joshkl;2872282]not so intolerable that when your car is idling that the dash and door panels are shaking./QUOTE]

This is your first problem. If you don't want your dashboard and door panels to shake, you need to tighten them up.

My door panels and dashboard do not shake at idle or WOT, and I have a V8.

You should be complaining about vibration in the seat, steering wheel, and floorboard because your body touches these areas. There should be nothing else rattling in your car. If something is rattling, fix it.

If you sit in the other cars and the vibration in the seat, wheel, and floor doesn't bother you, then there's no reason to go with a solid motor mount.

Makes sense?

window weld is not as resilient to heat/stress as much as roofing finishing flashing polyurethane.

well... atleast he didn't say concrete sealant

I am all for making your own mounts or making your stock mounts better. but who is going to buy brand new nismo mounts and then fill it with poly when the same result is reached from filling your warn non-broken motor mounts.

this is what i have a problem with.

DreamN

oh I see. did not see the nismo comment actually.

only mentioned 3m window weld as it's what others have mentioned to use. did not know about there being better materials. thanks for the info.

YES! I'm with you now. Window Weld is not a bad sealant/adhesive to use, because it does harden - and it was the "original", but I agree that it's not the best.

The stuff you posted would be worse, in my opinion because of this:
...This sealant is elastic and remains flexible to expand and contract with construction material movement, to protect and retain the original seal.

You want a hardening adhesive!

This is what I used: PL Premium Poly Construction Adhesive
