*****UPDATE ON LAST PAGE*****
I recently put a redtop SR in my 89 hatch, the motor was bone stock when I got it, it was completely un-molested, I did a few basic things like a tubular manifold, greddy front mount, HKS SS, and a 3inch elbow and downpipe. The car has no other issues at all, it pulls really hard and sounds great but it will not idle. When I started it up for the first time ever, it idled perfect, no issues at all. 2 days later I started it and it idled perfect still, and then later that night is when it randomly stopped wanting to idle. When I start it up, the revs pop up naturally, and with in 5 seconds it drops to 300 and then dies, if i hold the throttle open over 2000rpm it'll stay running but it seems anything under 2000 it starts sputtering, now what I have done
1. I searched on here and I really didn't find anything that seemed like the same problem i'm having.
2. I thought it might be the MAF but the car runs and drives perfect, I checked it anyway and its good.
3. I sprayed carb cleaner in my IACV, and it didn't change anything.
4. I vaccum leak tested it and the end of the IACV hose the goes on to the intercooler piping was not tight enough so I put a hose clamp on it and I had another small leak coming from my BOV flange but I fixed th
\\at (file://\\at), and the motor is vaccum leak free, but it still won't idle.
I don't know what to do really, I'm guessing it has something to do with my IACV but I don't wanna start turning screws and trying to replace shit when I don't know wtf i'm doing so I was hoping you guys could give me some advice, any ideas??????

check tps?
tps adjustment
magine that this picture is what the back of your TPS wiring harness looks like as it's plugged into the TPS:
-----
| A |
--------
| B | |
--------
| C |
-----
What you need to do is get a DVM and hook the positive lead through the back of the harness into "B" and hook the negative lead through the back of the harness into "A". It's easiest if you straighten a couple of paper clips (I used my wife's sewing needles...she nearly killed me) and shove them into the openings and hook onto 'em with alligator clips, but *DON'T* let them touch. Turn the ignition on (don't start the car) and check the voltage between "A" (-) and "B" (+). It should be between 0.45 and 0.55V. If it's not, you'll need to loosen (but not remove) the two screws or bolts that hold the TPS to the throttle body. Rotate the TPS until you get the proper voltage and tighten the screws, making sure it doesn't go out of adjustment when you tighten it down. As a final check, open the throttle all of the way. You should read around 4V.- (i did not write that forget where i got it)
and what do u mean by wont run? like it hunts or just dies?

the iacv is located on the intake mani, turn the plasic screw and see if the idle goes up and down in relation. you wont screw anything up, also pinch the big black hose going from your iacv to your chargepipe, you should notice a change in rpms.

it doesn't even hunt it just dies, it runs awesome if i just keep the revs up and drive it it pulls like its supposed to, doesn't miss or break up or anything, just when i push the clutch in and let off the gas the revs fall and it'll die, or if i'm just sitting still it'll just die

no just adjust the screw and it should adjust the idle. if you pinch the line and nothing happens then change the iacv

another thing you can do if the screw doesn't work is adjust the throttle cable. won't neccesarily tell you exactly whats wrong but it'll fix the idle problem also

the support where the cable comes out on the intake manifold. there should be an adjuster just move it away from the throttle body and then tighten it up. or if you don't have an adjuster take the cable out of that bracket and put a washer there to pull it away.

so where it sits on the bracket u can adjust it there right? by spinning the fitting on the cable that sits in the bracket???

no, those are two seperate tests to check your iacv

i wasn't able to get around to messing with it today but i did manage to get a new throttle cable and iacv from a friend so tomorrow morning i'm gonna go ahead and put the throttle cable on and adjust it back and see if i can get it to hold an idle i'll update u on what happens

ok so i put an air filter on the MAF and adjusted my idle and it idles perfect, but now it won't rev past 3000 rpm it sounds like i'm hitting rev limiter or 2 step or something, could it be my MAF is on its way out?????
because with the air filter off of the MAF,it won't idle but it will rev past 3000 no problem and makes power exactly like it is supposed to, i'm lost

not sure how relevant this is, but maybe it will lead you somewhere.. I had a bad ground for a MAF on a KA swap and it wouldnt rev past 2500 when the maf was plugged in. But when it was disconnected, it had a rough idle but would drive ok. I know you can test your IACV too with a 9volt battery actoss the 2 terminals you can hear\feel the solinoid activate and see the plunger move if you have it off the manifold. I have an s14 SR with the decel stall situation right now
