So far i have narrowed it down to either the gt28r and the gt2871r. I am completely stuck on my decision.I have an s13 redtop(stock head gasket) 440 injectors (s15 injectors), and power fc.

I am looking to make around 280rwhp for now, would the gt2871 be too overkill?

I like keeping my options open, and with the t28 i feel im setting my limits at 300rwhp. at least with the gt2871, i can throw on some bigger injectors, cams, and head gasket to make an easy 350rwhp

My #1 goal is reliability

Go with the 2871, it's not overkill, it's room for growth. If you only want 280hp then keep the boost low.

but wont a 2871 have more lag?

Are you really that concerned over a few hundred RPM? How is 500rpm slower spool going to hurt you? Do you race at 3500 RPM? The T04E in my Skyline didn't spool until about 4500rpm, that means I got awesome gas mileage cruising around because I never hit boost but it still pulled hard up top. Do you want the faster spool so you can hear your BOV open up everytime you shift?

the 2871 is still a pretty quick spooler and when you want more power, and you will, you have room to work.

Its a track drift car, a dont care about the bov, i just dont want to find myself coming out of a turn/ into a turn at low rpms and get draged down out of the powerband. I dont like the concept of turbo lag, but i have an sr, so the most i can do is try to minimize the amount of turbo lag.

the clutch kick is your friend :2f2f:

^I agree^

Or downshift.

Call me crazy, but Ive decided on a super conservative setup (for now)...

S15 injectors
S15 turbo
No MAF
PFC D jetro
HKS actuator
10 psi boost
Nismo FPR
*maybe Tomei Poncams (already own, not sure if i want to use)

This setup should give me around 250whp-280whp depending on the tune and boost pressure. It will also be care free and super super reliable. After all, its a track car, your could have 800whp, but if the driver ist good enough to properly use it, it means nothing.

Turn the boost up to 14~15psi.

The GT28R - s15 turbo is good for 300 WHP and 300 Torque on a dyno jet (about 265 whp / 255 trq on Dyno Dynamics) -

If you turn up the boost I have tuned s15 turbo cars up to 280 whp and 275 torque with cams.

This is my formula for 280 hp 275 whp/trq on my dyno

GT28R S15 Turbo
HKS 264 Step 1 Cams on both sides
Tomei Throttle Body
Lightened flywheel
Heavy Duty Clutch
Stock IM (For spool up and low end torque)
RAS
550 CC Injectors
Power FC L Jetro

Tuning on a brake eddy type dyno - ie Dyno Dynamics or Mustang Dyno

although Dyno Dynamics is a bit better because you can actually hold the car in a single cell - mustang dyno searches around and you can't exactly hold it dead in a single cell (which might be a problem area in the map).

I had a discussion about this earler in the year with Chris Forsberg's tuner and we both agreed on the need for DD on problem cells in maps and how much they can help get a car to really be violent on tip in throttle and fast spool.

haha, hay steve, i talked to you over the phone.

anyway, after a helpful post, i have decided to rethink my setup a bit to achieve numbers closer to my goal.

GT28R S15 Turbo
Tomei 256 cams
550 CC Injectors
Power FC D Jetro
