how thick is that intercooler core?

Lemme measure tonight and get back to you. I think it's like 2.5" or 3" though.

Intercooler core is 2.75" thick. Inlet and outlet are both 3" diameter. From edge of inlet to edge of outlet, intercooler is 31.75" long.

This thing is plenty thick, and it's tall too. The thicker your intercooler, the less air that gets to your radiator!

If you need better cooling, you want a THINNER intercooler. More air can get through to the radiator that way.

If you're talking about better charge air cooling, thinner is still better. Think about it. Air blowing across an intercooler heats up as it goes through the core. You can't cool somehting off by blowing hot air on it. The back half of a thick intercooler has hot air blowing across it, so half the intercooler doesn't work very well.

Thicker only helps reduce the pressure drop across the intercooler, but with a core as big as this one, there won't be much pressure drop anyway. In this case, all a thicker core will do is make the intercooler less effective and heavier.
