View Full Version : Oil in Spark Plug Chamber AGAIN

Ok, so a while back I posted a thread about having Oil in my spark plug chamber, assuming it was from a bad plug cover gasket. I purchased a new Fel Pro and proceeded to swtichg the gaskets. Well I took the old one off it appeared to be fine, everything was still intact and it had no appearance of wear. I still put the Felpro on because I bought it so mine as well.... Well I pulled my plug wires again today and there still appears that oil is getting into the chamber. The one im speaking of is where the plugs meet the wires. So seeing both gaskets have apparently been fine, what could it be from? Engine is a 91 Ka.
All help is appreciated.

i used to have this problem myself, i never did find the cause of it, i changed the gasket and like you said it didn't help at all. After my last rebuild it stopped doing it, so whatever the machine shop did fixed it lol. Sorry i couldn't really be much help, but i'd like to know the cause of this as well.

The gasket isn't doing its job properly. Same thing happened to me. I pulled it all apart, put some RTV on the gasket, and it hasn't leaked since.

sorry for upping a thread that's been out for a couple months now, but I'd like to help anyone that has a problem with this, as I recently have...Apparently the problem is a faulty o-ring on the piston, which allows the oil to get through into the spark plug chamber, which is also why the car blows black smoke out the exhaust. :naw:

umm pistons dont have orings lol and the black smoke is usually caused by your valve seals. and when you put the gasket on you first have to clean everything and then put the gasket on followed by a gasket sealer.

Car can blow black smoke for many reasons. Turbo cars usually blow black smoke because they run on the richer side.

Hey guys! Saw this was bumped up.
I just wanted to let you guys know that it was the Spark Plug Gasket, after switching it still wasnt sealing 100%. Even though it advised against, I used some High Temp Gasket Sealer and its been fine ever since!

head might be warped witch is less likely. Put some RTV on the O-ring gasket and slap it back on. Tah da, O and please bolt your valve cover down in sequence to distribute the pressure evenly.

Hi,
Meeting a specification doesn't mean the oils are the same. Unless walmart posts the specs on the oil on their website, you would have to do some reasearch to see who is actually making it in order to determine its actual performance.

This thread was not related to Engine Oil Performance/Comparison in any way though...

The spark plug gaskets like to fall out of place durring install. Blow in the tubes and see if they hold pressure before you torque anything down.
