Well my car started to over heat out of nowhere the other day. Luckily I was close to my house so i got her home before any damage was done.

Anyways, I get home and pop the hood and give everything a look over. I see no smoke or anything and there isnt any leaks.

I touched the top radiator hose and it was warm like it should be. touched the lower radiator hose and it was cold so I was like hell yea its just the thermostat.

Went and bought a new one and replaced it today. Added some coolant and gave it a few minutes to warm up. Oh and warm up it did! It started to overheat idling in the driveway. Once again I checked the top hose and it was warm, bottom was again cold.

So it seems like my thermostat is somehow not opening up, even the new one. I know you can run no thermostat in some cases and youll be fine. Should I do this in my situation?

I still havent tried flushing the cooling system so there is a chance the radiator may be clogged or something but would that still explain the thermostat from not opening? Im not sure if it would.

Also, could the water pump be the culprit? Is there a way to check the pump to see if its working correctly?

Similar problem with my car, I took off the thermostat so it's fine now.
But I have no idea why it's doing that.

I also replaced my water pump, but my old water pump was fine.
One of the hoses that leads to my thermostat burst a few days after though, maybe it was leaking and wasn't bringing all the heat to the thermostat, causing it to not open up.

Make sure you bled it well.

I drained all the coolant out before replacing the thermostat, but I never actually flushed it.
