OK well im getting another car because my other one got in an accident so I decided to look for a 240. anyways my friend showed me this site and it got me more interested in the 240. so far i checked one out. it was a 1995 240sx it was good ran great and everything but i notice it had the check engine signal. i asked and he said it was not the motor but he said it was a sensor of some sort. i could not understand him but thats all i got out later i test drove it with my dad and we both agreed it ran great.. .but now were just wating until he approves the price were offering. anyways do you guys have any idea what could be the reason for the signal to go off??? thanks

there could be several different reasons why the check engine light is on. best thing to do is to get a scan tool, or take it to somebody that has one, and read the codes that are in the ecu. that should tell you why the light is on. talk to the guy thats selling it and see if you can get a scan tool on it before you buy it so you know whats wrong.

Or you can pull the code yourself...take off the passenger side kick panel to get to the ECU. Unmount the ECU so you can get a screw on the other side to switch the ECU to diagnostic mode. Put the car to "On" (dont start it), turn the screw on the ECU all the way clock wise for 5 seconds or so, turn it back all the way counter clockwise. The check engine light on the dash should start blinking. Count how man times it blinks slow and how many times it blinks fast. The slow blink is your 1st digit number, fast blinks are your 2nd digits. So if it blink slow 4x and fast 6x then your code is 46. Once youre done, turn the screw again and back to take it out of diagnostic mode then start the car. Should try to clear the code in doing so, atleast until the ECU trips again.
