Cool product. I never seen the replacement front Catalysts. I just swapped out for a Hotshot full length header...that way you can simply swap in a generic inline hi-flow cat. I just never got around to adding any catalyst at all ( I know...I'm retarded, blah blah :) )

Damn, SD cops are out for blood. You still getting codes? Do you have smog numbers? HC levels? How do you know its your front cat?
Guess i'll have to be extra careful next time i go back home to SD.

Front cat? I'm sorry, but what are you talking about?
S14s only have ONE cat and that's the one closest to the header.
Old ass cat converter, piping, resonator, piping, muffler, pass smog.

That looks like a match for the piping on the cat. They would just have to cut and weld. May have to take the down pipe off to get to the front flange. The cat body is welded right to it and the bolts may get in the way.
The only worry is that it's only certified as a California PRE-OBDII cat. You are supposed to only run OBD-II certified cats in OBD-II cars. They did this cause a lot of replacement cats are 2-Stage. OBD-II cert requires 3-Stage. All S14 front cats should be 3 stage. This is more Magnaflow not wanting to have to deal with CARB certing it. Since you are doing(Buying) this yourself You don't have to worry about a shop freaking out that it's not a OBD-II part.

Some California models had the manifold cat and a 2nd cat in the S13/JDM location. Most got a hollow cat in the second location. Technically there are 2 cats as the FSM labels the hollow one as a cat also.

I don't see how they could tell the difference as long as it passes sniffer. It's the same shape, size and location as the OE. So should pass easily as an OE replacement.

The Catco is a bolt in, you could do it yourself in 30 minutes. If you're confident in your labor skills you'd save the cutting/welding needed, plus you can replace it later as needed. If the Magnaflow dies you're forced to cut/weld again.

I just looked it up and it is illegal to sell or ship 49-state/Federal converters in/to California. You are going to have to find a California model.

It's risky, but find someone to order it who's outside of CA, then have him ship it to you. Just know if he gets caught he'll burn you as well, so he better be a good friend.
