View Full Version : What could be causing this leak?

anyone know what might be causing this build-up of fluids on the side of my motor? it seems to be a common problem with S13 SR20's but mine seems as if it is getting progressively worse. at first i thought it was the power steering pump, but from a visual inspection i dont really think its that anymore. is it possible that oil is leaking from the head gasket in that area? has the seal on the front cover of the oil pump gone bad? the first bit of pictures are some that i took of the engine dirty. after that i cleaned it up as best i could while it was still in the car with all the shit in the way. i ran the car for about 10 minutes after that and i didnt see any visible leaks. any info you have would really kick ass.

Front Main Seal

Mine's doing the same thing right now

i just replaced the front main a little over a year ago...is it possible for it to be acting up like this already?

If installed incorrectly, yes.

i might as well try that then, i guess it cant hurt. but it honestly looks like the leak is coming from somewhere high up near the CAS

It wouldn't hurt to change the CAS o-ring either... That's probably weeping oil and collecting all the dirt that gets flung around in your e-bay.

ok, it appears as if the leak is running down the side of the motor. and from what i can tell is starts right about where the head gasket is located. m going to observe it a little more before i make a final determination.

to add to the bullshit, i just got home and when i pulled into my parking spot my car started making a loud whining noise. i popped the hood and it seems to be coming from the front of the engine somewhere. is this a sign of my water pump going bad?
