View Full Version : Timing belt on a KA?

I've often thought about wanting to eliminate the timing chain on my KA and replace it with a timing belt. I don't think there is a simple kit out there, so I was wondering if this has even been done or not. If not, what all would it take to do so? Any possibilities/ideas that you can think of to accomplish this?
I'm just bouncing ideas around. Negative comments aren't necessary.

They make kits for American v8s. I would do some research on those to come to your own conclusion.
Alternatively, you could have searched here for my thread on this exact subject and see this community's consensus.

Yea why you should be thankful you have a chain, you could possibly downgrade to the single roller chain though from teh newer KA's though if what your trying to do is loose some weight, I dunno...
Atleast I heard of a single roller chain haven;t seen one personally for teh DOHC KA

Only positives I can think of when moving from a chain to belt would be reduced rotating mass and better for higher rpm use. But many new cars are using chains including hondas k20.

And if you're whining about the chain rattle, just remove the one tensioner you don't need. Timing belts need to be replaced every 60k AT most...most cars need it before then. Timing belts stretch out easier, easier to break, etc..timing chains...I haven't seen one replaced yet on plenty of 200K+ KA motors :D sounds good to me.
