View Full Version : BREAKING! Infiniti Essence!

:eek2: THAT IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!
"Powered by a twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.7-liter V6 and a new electric drive design dubbed "3D Motor", the Essence yields a combined 592 brake horsepower (434 via internal-combustion, 158 brake horsepower via the lithium-ion backed disc-shaped electric motor).
The very unjapanese scale of the Essence yields a more Nippon-influenced interior for two, including an attractive driver-oriented "cocoon" that features a flat-bottomed steering wheel, hand-painted wood designed to look like Japanese laquerware and eccentricities like asymmetrical seat seams that mimic the way 'Japanese men and women tie their kimonos." Presumably, said kimonos fit nicely in the bespoke Louis Vuitton luggage (made more accessible via a powered trunk shelf)."

It's a concept, yes.
But what is under all the show stopping sexiness is Infinti's new design language. The front fascia is just intoxicating. The rear is just as beautiful.

Judging by the specs this is their new flagship coupe. Not thSX version of the Infinti and I don't think this is based off the GTR as the proportions are drastically different. This looks like a $100k + luxo coupe to compete with say an Aston Martin or Ferrari.

The powertrain does remind me of GT-R (twin turbo V6) and it's an interesting design language. I wonder if they will be able to pull it off on a production car. I can see a few elements making it into the next iteration of the M (i.e. headlights).

The GTR Transmission is a double clutch paddle shift semi auto straight out of Formula one. Two completely different technology wise transmissions.
Now with that said, Hello Aston Martin,Ferrari,Bentley,McLaren etc.... Nissan/Infiniti called they want to own you with one of the of sexiest cars to ever come out of Japan. Man I am just going to put this on my desktop and have fun all day. LOL

And for the last fucking time people need to stop comparing the paddle shifters in these high end cars to some lame tiptronic they tried in some sub-$100K car they drove once! WTF!
The paddle shifting in high end and exotic vehicles is nothing like you imagine and closer to what is used F1.

So I guess you wouldn't drive an F1 car if the opportunity where given to you. Question: How many high end vehicles (with an MSRP over $100K) have you driven that have paddle shifters?
If you're speaking from experience, then maybe you have a solid foundation on which to base your argument on.
If you're driving one of these cars on a track at their limit, having no clutch pedal is the last thought on your mind. For those lucky enough to blast one of these types of cars through The Nürburgring or something you know that its still a rush.

i have never driven any car with paddle shifters in my entire life. i have driven three cars over one hundred thousand dollars in value that had real transmissions. i have not driven an f1 car, but would if given the opportunity. none of this is relevant to the fact that the GTR comes with a glovebox stuffed with men's thongs.

is that some people actually enjoy using a clutch and shifting

No no no, it is definitely NOT a SX successor. Unless the SX is being replaced with a 6 figure Luxury GT.
And, yes people, this thing is gonna be heavy, BUT so are a lot of exotic cars. A DBS V12 weighs over 3700 lbs but it's still hot as fuck.
Also, Nissan has, more than anyone else in the industry IMO, been able to overcome weight with engineering. The GTR SHOULD NOT be as fast or perform anywhere as well as it does...but IT DOES. Period. Who cares about weight if it outperforms cars weighing hundreds of pounds less. This is also a hybrid. So it'll more then likely outperform cars in it's class AND get gas mileage unheard of in it's class.
THIS IS the car Honda wants the NSX to be and Toyota wants the FT-HS to be...but they obviously haven't figured it out yet.

none of this is relevant to the fact that the GTR comes with a glovebox stuffed with men's thongs.
But does it matter, really? In the grand scheme of things I don't think anyone cares. The GTR is a limited production car, and every single one built will be sold. Just like the DB9 and every other high end exotic using paddle shifters. There will still be manual sports cars for the common folk to buy, so people need to stop freaking out. If Nissan started offering the GTR with a clutch pedal, demand will stay practically the same. The change in demand will be insignificant. All that would happen is more people would add it to their imaginary shopping list because they can't actually afford it anyways.
But I'm getting way off topic here.
The Essence will do well against the market its slotted for. Its a bold step for Infiniti and that's the most important part. They grew some cojones and threw some crazy mad supercar out there. Finally some escitement!

I'm not arguing that its better or arguing people's prefrences for one or the other. What I'm saying is don't compare it to an auto or some low end paddle shifter or tiptronic, its apples to oranges. My question to that is, how can he be talking out of his ass, if he is speaking an opinion? I doubt you have ever driven a car sitting on 30" rims. Yet I bet you would make jokes about it, and say how you don't like it, and defend your stance with how it is stupid and blah blah.
What busted is doing with the GTR is no different. All he is saying is that he wants a traditional manual tranny, not an auto one. Regardless of whether it cvt, what the hell ever the GTR's is, or chinese babies that come out of the glove box and shift it for you.
It is obvious you like the GTR and other cars like it, but damn, flying down someone's throat and insulting them for voiced their opinion is just uncalled for.

Till you have to turn and the lack of a b pillar and solid roof come into play.
So what you're saying is that because there's no (visible) b-pillar, the car can't turn? Wow, I guess all these companies are selling verts to be parked in the garage for people to show off to their friends? Last time I checked the 350z roadster outhandles plenty of cars that do have roofs. Not to mention other roofless, well handling cars such as the s2000, miata, etc.
That being said, most of us realize that this is a CONCEPT, which IF it makes it to production, would have a roof and b-pillar, because as stupid as they seem sometimes, Nissan wouldn't release a car of this magnitude that wasn't at least driveable.
Oh, btw, if you actually look at the pics, you can see the b-pillar, as well as the roof support.
Yes, this is a concept. Notice the lack of side mirrors and door handle.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It was too busy looking inside out in a awkward sort of way. Reminded me of the RX-8 in a way. Great analysis.
With the DSG like tranny, you have to figure this was probably built to be a luxury tourer, marketed towards a certain demographic. It's not entirely inappropriate, and it might not be cost effective to give this car a 6-spd manual.
The only transmission I've ever driven with something close to this is the Audi A3's dual clutch DSG, and works surprisingly well. shifts are super smooth, and with the sport mode (higher shift points maybe?), the computer is well enough tuned that even paddle downshifts aren't necessary. I could live with it. While I still prefer a conventional manual today, some of the dual clutch type automatics are a huge leap ahead of auto trannies just a few yrs back.

In other words Koopa, once again you have no idea and once again, you talk like the ass you are.
Yes I insulted your dumb ass and yes I posted it, because yes you made another completely clueless statement.
For supposedly calling yourself a mathlete, you sure didn't crunch your numbers, before making the whack statement you did.
As far as others go, fact is Busteds13 quite often does talk out his ass. Maybe he was speaking his opinion, but when you speak opinion with out knowledge, that's ignorance and talking with ignorance is equal to talking out your ass.
Something, Koopa does all the time.
Now, if you fucks, can get off your, I hate the GTR bullshit. This is about the Essence, not the GTR.

Till you have to turn and the lack of a b pillar and solid roof come into play.
What about the Zonda F roadster?

It is said to have a stiffer chassis than the hard top while also being lighter.
(It lapped TopGear's track faster than the Veyron)

Dude you and Koopa are the shitheads ruining this thread. Not I. You guys made your typical asshat comments and the thread went south! Stop trying to play Mr Honorable when phlip calls you on the carpet.
Oh and by the way, to further clarify your comments Busted. When you speak an opinion, without firsthand knowledge, its ignorance. Ignorance spoken, is talking out ones ass.
You can say, I dislike the idea or the concept. Then, you are speaking correctly and not talking out your ass.
When you say I dislike, hate, etc ....... insert whatever here, without actually having experience its bullshit i.e. talking out your ass.
Especially, when you don't clarify, its the idea or conceot you don't like.
If you do not have actual working first hand knowledge of something, you cannot possibly hate it because you have no experience with it. So if you say you hate it? Well, your talking out your ass. Something, you and koopa do on a regular basis.
This is where both of you, get yourselves into trouble in these debates. Its a matter of simple clarification, which would make your statements more correct.
Oh, and I see you went back and clarified your comment a bit, but at the same time disregarded the differences in transmissions.

i don't like paddle shifters
I don't like paddle shifters too.
paddle-shifters and dual clutch automatics are totally different things.
think of paddle-shifters as an alternative to the automatic shift knob, as thats all it is.
you can throw paddle shifters on a conventional auto, a tiptronic-like auto, a cvt, and whatever else type of auto tranny there is.
In most (if not all) cases, you don't need to use the paddle-shifters at all.
Dual clutch automatic is an alternative to a conventional manual.
You don't need paddle shifters to operate it, even if the car coincidentally comes with both devices.
On the DSG-equipped A3 I drove, I just used the auto-shifter to up/down shift as needed.
It's almost like driving with one of those Ikeya Formula shifters, but without the clutch.

I don't like the body styling, even if it is a concept.
It reminds me of Megatron from the TF movie.
