so i get home last night...........
i take my keys out of my ignition and open my door and my seat belts don't move. but when i put my key on the on position they work.....:(
also my radio stopped working.....
my clock only works when my key is in the on position with my doors closed.....:bash:
i do notice that my "door" light on my cluster, very dimly, turns off and on when my doors are shut.
what the heyyyy man... this is pissin me off. i checked all the wires leading to my door and my radio... nothin is frayed or cut. i also checked the fuses.. any input is greatly appreciated.
car is 92' s13 hatch btw...

It's probably a wire under the dash.
I probably pinched/shorted out the same wire all the way, when I was putting my dash back on a long time ago.
The 15amp fuse for the radio/clock/interior lights keep popping on me as soon as I put it in, so something's grounded and drawing constant amperage.

You checked ALL fuses? The battery electronics fuse is under the hood IIRC.

ill check the fuses under the hood tomorrow morning, also i just found out that my dome light doesnt work either, and when i switch it to OFF and ON it turns my clock off on my cluster....and in the DOOR position it turns my clock back on... all this with my key in the on position.

My car has had S14 seats in it, and until I put the dash back on after swapping the entire main chassis harness (the one that goes from under the driver's side dash area, out to the engine bay with the fuse boxes) everything was working fine, so I can only assume that some wires got owned in the process of me putting the dash back on.
Has nothing to do with seats.

Well since you pulled your dash, that sound like it’s probably your best bet, but my problem was very similar, when i turned on my interior light it would make the chime that I left the keys in the ignition, my seatbelts wouldn't work and my clock only worked when it wanted to. My radio also didn't work, but that could be related to another issue.
SoSideways, you shouldn't completely discredit me like i don’t know what I’m talking about. you didn't even hear what i had to say.
jayrawr, on my car it ended up being the wiring harness that ran under the driver seat to the center divider. If you know for a fact i had nothing to do with you seat, trace those wires up to the dash. It is the same wire/s that have caused both of our issues, maybe just in a different place.
P.S. My car had stock seats, but somehow they managed to pinch the harness. Don’t ask me how.

Just pinching the wiring underneath the seat wouldn't cause all the symptoms that the OP is experiencing, which is why I knew it wasn't going to be a seat problem to begin with.

anyway it seems like you got it handled, just trying to help out.

hmm, well it was worth a shot, that means its under the dash. could still be the same wire. if you want i can pull my harness and check to see what color the wire was.
dude, i really want to hit up willow springs! but i think my car has a bad cas :(
, you should shoot me a pm when you get things sorted out, im always down to meet new people with sr's.
good luck!

It's probably a red w/ black stripe wire, as indicated by the FSM.

the fuse for those three things is labeled Number 10 on your fuse cover under the dash. If you are looking at it, the fuse will be all the way at the top on the right IIRC. Same thing happened to me a while back, very annoying but thats how i fixed it.
SoSideways
02-14-2009, 09:29 AM
I think it's the 3rd one down from the top, on the right side, under the dash.
IIRC it's a 10amp fuse.
The radio, clock on the cluster, and interior lights are all tied to that fuse.

If this were my car, I would pull out the entire body harness and look at every single connector and wire and check for short.
If everything looks good and you are 100% absolutely sure that all the wires are pinned correctly with no short, then start with component checks.
The first one I would check would be the gauge cluter. Look at the trace on the circuit board and check with the FSM. Check every pin for continuity and short.
Then check the seatbelt ECU and other electrical components, like time control unit, relays, etc.
It will be very involved once you've done the basics of looking at fuses and short wires. That's why it costs $60/hour for as many hours as it takes to find the problem.

This shit just happened to me a week ago, my drunk friend tore the power wire out of my radio (nothing behind dash but wires), and ever since then, my dome light/clock/seatbelts don't really work. Gunna check the fuse that you are all talking about once I get hold of a flashlight tonight.

check the 75A relay under the hood by the battery.
sometimes when you touch the radio power cable to something else other than the radio harness it blows. cluster wont work, dome light, ect.
and check ALL the fuses in the kick panal.

Same happened to me after replacing my dash. I went through all the wires and found a bunch that were bare so I replaced those and nothing. I bought new conductors and nothing. So me missing the obvious only check the audio fuse and I found out later that it was at room-lamp fuse under the dash board.

I think I am about to join the club. I recently installed a new head unit, speakers, and MP3 player to CD changer adapter in my S13. Earlier yesterday I noticed the head unit would cut off/turn back on intermittently. I put a couple of wheels with tires in the back hatch and when I drove my car later the clock and head unit would not work and the door ajar light was on. But what I have going on is different in that under hard acceleration the clock and radio will come back on. Either way Im going to check fuses and go back over the head unit wiring.

Did anyone figure out FOR SURE wtf this problem was?
Last night i get in my car and change out the cd and then instantly my dome light, cluster clock and radio have no power whatsoever. I checked all the fuses and the room lamp fuse was indeed blown. However, after replacing it twice and it instantly blowing i have no fucking clue what the flying fuck the problem is.
Do i have anything else to do besides rip everything out of the car and checking the harness itself for shorts???

Car is in the garage completely torn apart. Carpet out, dash out, door sills, center console, EVERYTHING! Can anyone recommend certain wiring to check or anything??
Im finding nothing. I would really like to keep everything in my car working haha. It's one of those rare not beat to fuck s13's haha.

I had this exact problem which happened to be the blown fuse everyone was referring to. It happened as I was trying to steal power from the stereo unit to use for lights under the dash. I decided (brilliantly) to pinch the wire behind a nut and washer connected to the passenger side firewall and torqued the shit out of it until it bit through the rubber wire coating. Then when I flicked the switch for my lights I caused a short and blew the fuse. Replaced the fuse, removed the short and found another way to attach the wire.
For others with this problem there might be a short somewhere along your stereo unit's power line, especially if it was a mongolian or DIY install.

I'm currently having the exact same issue as the op. My room lamp fuse is blown but every time I change it. It'll blow again instantly. Anyone figured out what exactly the problem is?

Also, I can't find the battery electronics fuse anywhere. Is it only on the s14?

Thanks for bumping this. I too have the same problem. Absolutely no power to anything with the key off. It sucks at night cause the lights don't come on when i open the door. Plus my clock and radio keep resetting every time i turn the car off.

I have the same problem (seatbelts only work when key is in the "ON" position, domelight doesn't work and the bulb is fine, cluster light dimmer switch doesn't work, radio doesn't work, etc.), and I think this may be the fix: Fix for 240sx instrument panel / dash lights NICO Club (http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/fix-for-240sx-instrument-paneldash-lights.html)
I have yet to try it, but it's worth a shot

Any fixes on this??
decided to bump because im having the excat same problem. no power to radio, interior lights, seatbelts only work with the switch on, cluster clock only works with the door closed.
Fuses are good and have replaced tcu and nothing. Checked for power on R&B wire on the radio and looks like i have no power going to it and im pretty sure that wire should have battery power all the time.
