I have a 1990 Nissan 240SX Hatch, that i recently purchased. Im new to these cars and dont really know much about them, altho have experience with working on cars.
anyways, my question to you all more experienced ppl out there is:
Should i keep the stock engine in my car which is KA24E (SOHC) and just put turbo on it and rebuilt the engine, OR swap to KA24DET and rebuilt the engine???
I want a normal daily driver as well as a nice weekend drift warrior without having the cops on my ass and going through all the illegal smog checks.
I want a 100% street legal car with a Bruce Lee punch to it!!!
I needs help cause my head is hurting over this and advil is not working!
Very appreciated for any positive and useful suggestions.

if you want 100% street legal, you wont be adding a turbo to either motor.
Swap in the DE and do the basic bolt ons. Done and done.
FYI, this has been discussed before. Please do research before making any more threads.

well, from what i noticed ppl do now a days is remove the turbos if you need to smog the car or get pulled over and get the hood popped. So its the easiest and smartest set up that im after.

DE.
I am going to guess you are from Cali. If you want a street legal car with motor power start looking for other swaps(350z, LS1..) I have heard that these will pass SMOG if you do all the paper work.

It has nothing to do with paperwork.
They haven't been passing in s-chassis because of the steering interfering with the stock header.
And you can't have aftermarket headers to pas BAR, so yeah.

I thought I remember somewhere on here that got a LS1 swap done and all legal in Cali?
Or what about using the headers off of the trucks or FWD LSx cars?

I want to stay with the KA's, dont want to swap for 350Z or non of those, including the V8's....
i want an engine that will provide enough power for me to go do some drifting and go to work afterwards. haha.
If I do install KA24DE and put turbo set up for it, i can take off the turbo and smog it legally right???

You can go drifting with a stock KA.
SOHC or DOHC.

going back to stock every time you need to smog your car would be such a huge pain in the ass...

i heard that the SOHC can hold the boost better but NA DOHC is the way to go
