Im posting this because my 91 hatchback idle was all jacked up going from 1100 to 600 at stop lights. I searched the forumns all over for a solution but everyone was convinced it had to do with the IAVC so i removed it, Still weird idle. So my buddy across the street came over and asked if i had replaced the distributor cap and rotor, tada that did it replaced both of them and the car runs at a smooth 750 no jumping whats so ever, so if you have a weird idle problem check these first!!!

KA, but my idle was fucked i mean i would have to hold my foot on the gas at lights so it didnt sounds retarded, but after i replaced the cap and rotor it was perfect. I still need to get lines and spark plugs but just the cap and rotor fixed mine doesnt even jump when idleing cold so try that i guess, then adjust the idle screw to the perfect purr.

From my very limited knowledge, sr's don't have a cap and rotor. Of course I could be wrong but I don't think so.

There are soooo many things to check.

Start with the basics. Sufficient Air, Fuel and Spark. The apropriate amount at the right time.

I'm glad to see that some people are actually considerate enough to post solution' s to a problem, instead of just their problems.Theres nothing worse than a post that matches your problem exactly but with no answer on what was actually wrong.

your problem almost sounds like mine, my SR idle surges up and down from 700-800, but it runs ok otherwise. sometimes it will drop to like 500, and other times it will idle at 1000 for a few seconds and th settle down to the 700-800 surge. Since yours was your destributer, im thinking mine could be the CAS.

Took my car to the mechanic today and they got it down to 1100-1200rpms, but when i drove it away it went to 1400-1500rpms and it jumps up and down too.

Also when the idle went down, there was a noise in the engine now. When it was at 2k rpms, there was no noise. Any idea on what that noise could be?

I want it to be around 800rpms. Can anyone show me where the idle screw is? I have a 93 240sx hatch
