smell comming from transmission

well i had my car looked at a while ago and everything was fine, but i had a smell coming from the transmission. It is still there and i was wondering if i should worry about this, it doesnt smell like anything burning, but similar.

If it's a manual, you probably are missing the boot on top of your shifter.

that or somebody tried to fill up the tranny through the shifter and spilled gear oil in the car.

go buy some 80w90 gear oil from the parts store and smell that. is that what your smelling? maybe you dont have the boot on your shifter like stated, or if the thing was overfilled over time it will leak it out.

do u only smell it on the freeway or at higher rpms?

yeah it usually tends to smell at higher rpms. i'll check tomorrow. thanks i thought i might have a problem but it seems like it has a small to no chance of being serious. thanks

its nothing major, it happened on most of the 240s i've drove

put 80/90 gl4 and check the shift boot on trans..usually ripped with high miles and if different type of gear oil they tend to smell on 240 s especially after long period of time on freeway....
