my friend who was gunna do it for my said something about taking off the plate. so im guessing that he's referring to this blue b&m plate

So instead of installing the shifter, you took it apart?

Put the shifter back together. Make sure the transmission is in neutral and install the entire shifter assembly with the plate. There's no need for pictures because it's completely self explanatory.

no i did not take it apart my friend helping me with the full motor n trans swap did it because he said itd be easier to mount the trans with the shifter out

so now i am trying to re-insert the shifter w/o him
but when i tried just bolting it in from these pics the shiter only moves back n forth as in only going into 3rd n 4th gear
i have no idea if the trans is in gear or not

You are dropping it in wrong, when you drop it in make sure it sits straight in the middle guide the bottom down into a little hole i believe

Take that plate off and reassemble it dawg. Then install the whole unit with the 6 bolts. The 2 front bolts are a bitch unless you have cool tools. I had to get under the car and undo the tranny cross member to get to them.

Dead thread but I can't find any solution to this? I did the same thing. Does anyone know how to solve this?

loosen off the crossmember bolts (4) 3/4" and this will drop the tranny by 3/4" and make it possible to get the front 2 screws in and tightened from below. Be sure to use jackstands for safety if you are under the car. Ratcheting wrenches made this job easier, but you could make it happen with regular ones. Use a gasket or RTV sealant before placing the plate on the tranny. Use some brake cleaner on a rag to clean the surfaces where the gasket material goes, and remove all of the old gasket before installing the new one.

You will be able to slip the shifter and plate into the hole in one piece at that point. Be sure the bottom of the shifter is seated in the hole in the tranny, or it wont work.

the springs go on top of the shifter. so install the shifter then drop in the springs on both sides. put the plate back on and tighten the allen head nuts back down. its going to be tough due to the pressure from the springs but with a little persistence you'll get it.

I bought a second hand B&M that was taken fully apart. I have all of the correct compents because I acquired them directly from B&M. I can't figure out the order that they are supposed to be assembled in.

I've searched, but nothing of help pops up.
