how do i adjust the milage on the odometer

I want to buy it, but the guy says theres only 43k mi on it while I have 83k mi on mine, I want the new cluster to read my actual milage? is there anyway i can go about doing that?

I'd be careful with messing with the odometer.  Even if your correcting for the better.  I also don't think the numbers come with the guages, I was under the assumption that the actual numbers were attached to the car and not the cluster.  I could be wrong though.

if you just want the white faces, just use those, and you won't have to worry about the miles.  i think you can just change it by hand if you want to change the miles though.  when you take the cluster out, everything is exposed, so it shouldn't be that hard

Once you get the gauge cluster out of the dash, (and yes, the numbers are part of the gauge cluster), there is a way to roll the numbers I believe.  IIRC there is just a dial back there, that would normally turn in accordance to your mileage.  Just be careful not to break anything in there.

I know you can't roll it backwards, but I don't know about going forwards.  Try asking a dealer (or someone who may have to replace a gauge cluster) b/c they would likely be able to match the mileage.

speaking of mileage, a friend and I were talking about this a while ago, how much do you have to do to a car before you can reset the odometer to zero? It must be allowable after a certain amount of modification, because I doubt that restored model t's (just an example) have the original mileage on them....

model T's in general are granted an exceeds mechanical limits designation.   They cant hit 100K.  You are most likely going to have a dealer do it for you otherwise you are looking at some trouble.  As for being able to change it to zero........you can do it at anytime, but need to disclose the milage that was on the chassis at the time of the reset.

Just so you know, in models '96 or newer (I believe) if you try and roll the odometer, blue ink will disperse out of nowhere permanently marking the odometer. It's an anti-mileage-fraud thing. My boyfriend told me this, he works at a Nissan dealer. So, I wouldn't mess with it.

they are just playing with you....no ink sprays out.  The newer nissans (non digital dont have it)  My altima didnt have it......think of it this way.....your cluster breaks and you go to nissan for a new one.....it is shipped with mileage of 0000000,  the techs at the shop know how to change the odometer to whatever setting the broken one was at.........how do i know.  I had my cluster replaced twice and I saw the cluster with 0000000 and the real mileage a few minutes later.

How u know it doesn't ink the numbers? &nbsp;Seems like a good idea to me... I'm sure as #### not gonna play with my odometer =)
I did try and fix my S13 odo when I traded it, however. . bought it at 107k miles... hit 114,052 miles and stuck right there. . so I just kept driving =) &nbsp;(It was a Canadian car, but the cluster was from a USDM 240sx.. makes me wonder if it was used)... Oh well... &nbsp;it's the thought that counts =)

My boyfriend talked to a Nissan Tech in the Nissan store he works in. It's Nissan's way of protecting odometer fraud. Ink will cover the numbers if they are turned by hand (on years '92 and newer, not sure). If your odometer isn't working, and you want it adjusted, they won't be able to do it to match the mileage. Instead, they'll mount a new one in that will say 000000 and your title will thereon read &quot;not actual mileage&quot;.

I didnt see anything that could poissibly spray any ink out when i pulled out the cluster on my '95 240.
I have heard of some cars that will put scratches in the numbers if they are turned the wrong way with a ratcheting type thing.
And, it is an electronic link to the odometer, so im sure with the right equipment or a wiring diagram and some electrical knowledge it would be real easy to run the motor to turn it to wherever you want.

so wait, all I have to do is go to the dealer then. I want the 97-98 gauges cuz they aren't ugly ass oval like my 96. I do have an SE so my guages are white. but I want the round/circle gauges.
