I mean a car alarm system lol. And do you like it? It seems the best way to gauge whats good for you is to research price/features as well as asking others as there isn't(as far as I've seen) a comprehensive review of various systems online. Also, does having manual door locks affect which system you can use?

A garage. I absolutely love it. I also have a quick release hub, lock, a top of the line alarm and strategically located kill switches

lol

Actually, I lock my doors, and I have the only green 2door e36 in the area, and I live on an army post.

So I think im safe.

besides, there's nothing in my car worth stealing. A broken casette player, and some used clothes.

They all work the same now days...

Key options to add to any system is the Glass Break Sensor and the Tilt Sensor.
Most theft is Smash and Grab or Tow your shit these days.

Massholes jump the border and steal... having a shop was interesting... 18 yr old kids think bragging about stealing is cool. SO I hung a 12 gauge on my shop wall. that worked. Unloaded too! gotta let em hear it. hahaha

Carry a gun, if you dont and you get rolled. You will wish you did, they make nice belt buckle guns, .22 you can fit in to pocket, wallet guns. dont let Scumbags or anyone take whats yours. EVER.

If you don't find all 7 cut-off swithces on the car, and place them in the proper position (some should be on, some should off) before you turn the ignition, the Claymore Mine under the drivers seat takes care of you. Plus I get a convertible and new interior out of the deal.

I have had compustart 2w900FM in both the 240 and the WRX. Have had good luck with both. When I get my STi, I am giong to get the super spectrum Compustar for the added range being I use it as a car starter also.

Lojack, done deal

Eh. I was thinking about this but to me it defeats the purpose if I get me car back, after they strip it. Happened to someone I talked to, three times.

Really? Lojack saved my car the only time it was ever stolen and is worth EVERY single dollar I spent

I feel you. I guess it luck of the draw? How long did it take them to recover it from the time it was stolen?

Sleepy240
12-21-2008, 08:21 PM
~30ish minutes from the time I reported it, they mangled the kit and got the CD player but thats it... And I agree its total luck of the draw but for what its worth I will continue to use lojack on any other car purchases

Ravelco anti theft, Lo-Jack, and a Viper 791xv pager remote. ravelco itself has never had its system bypassed, and for those who attempt to tow my shit, i get a call on my cell phone the minute it moves. in less than 5 minutes PD is notified and tracking has begun. concrete walls will be what people see when they eye my car. the whole concealed weapons permit thing is a surprise when i catch you in action if local PD doesnt.

Compustar makes probably the most reliable and high quality alarms. DEI, Viper, etc all seem to be just lower quality, esp when it comes to remotes.

and WHATEVER YOU DO GET A 2way....no one cares if a car alarm goes off. YOu're the only one that cares so you need to make sure that your alarm can tell YOU that someone is messing with YOUR car. This means have them put the antenna for the alarm on the front windshield so it has the best range. Sure it's ugly but better an ugly antenna in the window and me knowing my car is being jacked vs a purty windshield and a loud siren and everyone just going about their business :(

Personally I have a stupid setup with CompuStar Pro P2W9000FMR (remote start) w/ shock, glass break, tilt, ultrasonic sensor, door trunk hood pins, battery backup, battery backup 2nd siren, fuel pump cutout, trunk popper (base models have no remote cable :( and a window module just for convenience.

only thing left to do is wire in a relay for the a/c so that I can make sure it's on in the summer when i remote start it :)

Pretty much overkill, but my boys at the stereo shop did it as a hookup and a "because we can" install for the shop.

oh yeah dont let the haters fool you into thinking alarms are useless. Doesn't do much good to be packing a bazooka if you dont know when to use it :(

That said, anyone want to loan me their bazooka?
