I have a few questions actually...
ok, im working on getting an SR20 in about a year or so but i heard it is good to overhaul the engine first.
let's see, im already looking at the JE Piston kit, Eagle connecting Rods, Greddy metal head gasket, ARP studs and bolts, and an ATI super damper.
Is there anything else critical that i need to keep the engine life going strong? like some camshafts, valve spring and retainer kit, and rocker arm stopper kits, ETC?
what does a Piston Sleeve kit do? is that neccesary?
one last thing, does anyone know where the PCV valve is on the KA motor? :D

The PCV valve is in the line from the brake booster. Got from another post.

Piston Sleeve kit does/ it a hardened sleeve like a diesel truck has. it allows you to increase boost pressure (25-40psi+) and you can machine them out for bigger pistons such as a stroker kit. sleeve kit/labor is expensive $1500+!

Why would you need to overhaul/rebuild an SR if its a good engine? How much HP are you shooting for? If your shooting for 350-400hp, theres absolutely no need to do all that on an SR.

PS: Considering how much money you'd throw into rebuilding an SR, you might as well do a big boy swap (RB25/1JZ or LSx).

your right, ill just wait till they absolutely need to be replaced to do all that stuff.... how much more would i pay to get the RB25 swap compared to an SR20? im talking about a full engine swap... the shop down the road said they could do the full SR20 swap for about 6-7Gs....

What!? 6-7g's, I'm building a car from scratch for that, I have been shopping for an SR for about a month, the highest prices I've seen were about 4k for an S15 engine, trans, ecu, harness etc. I would go talk to some other shops and search around the forums to see what other people have paid. IMO that price os obsurd for anything short of a brand new S15 ready to drop in. Just my .02

well the shop said the engines that they get are close to 3Gs, with ecu harness n all the basics, but said it'd be better to get that, plus all the neccesary hardware like downpipe exhaust, clutch radiator intercooler etc.. ?? he said i'd save money doing it that way... im gonna have to do more research somehow...

DUDE!!! lol that isn't a great deal though...unless he's talking about an aftermarket DP, EX, clutch, Koyo rad, and GReddy intercooler.

It's a Red top and it isn't worth that much. people are getting red tops installed for $3000.

I got my S14 Black top, Koyo Rad, Greddy FMIC, Exedy Clutch, Aftermarket DP, test pipe, new turbo gaskets, and small battery for $6000 flat.

I got that done at SR20STORE. they do great work for fair prices. too bad you arent in Cali :P at least you dont have to worry about the damn SMOG BS!!
