ok so my alternator is going out and im curious if i can swap a beefier alt in there or am i stuck with buying a oem sr unit?

the stock sr unit outputs at 90 amps. at least mine did after i had it rebuilt. cost 80 bucks. good deal. dont know about a beefier alternator.

You can definitely go to a Nissan Quest alternator (110A IIRC), or an "aftermarket" alternator for car audio (250A, 300A, etc). There's no reason, especially when you consider the parasitic loss from a big alternator.
You have to be pushing about 1500W before you need to think about a bigger alternator. Just have your stocker rebuilt.

ok thanks my friend directed me to a place too rebuild my alt
i am going to run a system in my car but it is only 1000w

Your 80A alternator could run your 1000W amp continuously (which it never has to), you're definitely good with getting a rebuilt one (that'll be at least 80A, much more likely 90A). If your friend's hookup doesn't work out, there's always Grand Rebuilders in the Valley (near LA) - they did a few for me over the years, and have super-fast turnaround time.
