View Full Version : removed my emblems

so i removed my emblems over the weekend. if anyone needs any advice on how or what products to use, just ask. Here's my problem. The nissan emblems (front and back) left 2 holes in the hood and taillights. What should I do? Fill them up and repaint it ($500), get silvia emblems ($150), or take my nissan emblems and repaint them flat black ($20)? Any other options?

I say spray paint the exsisting one's. Were they black to begin with? If they were chrome use chrome spray paint, you would be surprised how good that stuff works.

they're chrome. i just like the idea of going around stealth. one hour after removing the emblems, i went out to the clubs, and a girl stopped me to talk about my car, cause she had no idea what it was.

but... $500 might be too much to spend (to repaint my hood and bumper).

If you wanted to fill the holes your self you could put some kind of flat surface on the other side of the hood. and put filler in the holes. Let it dry, sand it, prime it, put tape around the edge and paint it. I've never done this myself so don't take my word for it. Or you could stop at the priming stage and let a pro paint it. And btw would you really have to have the whole hood painted for those two holes? I'm not sure.

Personally if I was to repaint, I'd go pro. So I'm not sure if I helped

if i paint it, i'll spend $$$ on a pro to do it. that's why its 500

Well... why don't you just get a Silvia Shield for the front, and completely remove them from the back?

That's what that stands for? Huh.... didn't know that.

Personally, I'd fill the holes and see what type of job I could do with touchup paint. If you're really good and you leave a little indentation where the filler is, you might be able to make a decent match.

People have recommended using Goo Off for removing the leftover glue after taking off the emblems. Where do I find that stuff? So far I've looked in supermarkets and Home Depot and didn't find any.

Try Ace Hardware....or a local mom&pop lumber type store.

on the inside of your hood... put tape to cover the whole (did this to my spoiler holes) then buy some touch up paint to match your car. get a pin (like a plastic pin you write with) if the wholes are small get one of those platic pins that are one solid piece and pull out the tip and ink stick thing.. and stick the tip in the whole and poor (SLOWLY) A SMALL BIT OF PAINT thru the other in of the pin... when it drys then poor on more to fill it in the rest of the way once you get it full and it has that little dome shape to it lay a piece of tape over it to flatten it out... my trunk came out great... and you can hardly tell there was ever 7 wholes there.. heh yea 7 i had a big heavy GT-R rip off spoiler

i literally ripped off that emblem from the dealer when i got my car because it looked stupid - i hate unneccary stuff. I just use lighter fluid. you just squirt it on the glue and rub with a cloth. whatever you use make sure you wax everything when your gone

Go with the spray painted black emblems. Black and gold offset nicely, and it's cheap.

well, i can't really do any painting on the rear cause the emblem is on the lights. maybe i'll just fill the holes with some clear putty.

btw, the stuff i used to remove the goo was called 3M adhesive remover. works great, but kinda expensive. $38 cdn

I say steal a gold Honda emblem off of an Accord and put it there.

NO

Lighter fluid should take care of it. Also, see if you can find any golden vinyl material and cut out two little teeny-tiny dots and put them over the holes on your car. Seriously, that may not be such a bad solution either. Yeah, it won't look perfect, but it's easy to do and looks better than having two black holes.

I spent an hour with a hair dryer and my fingers taking the double stick tape off that held the "240SX" badge on my 97. Got the rest off with a clay bar, some polishing compound, wax cleaner and then rewaxed it, came out NICE.
As for the holes..... hmmm, for the front, Just buy a CF hood. For the back, just try what everyone else said.

the holes are about 1/8 inch each in diameter. i won't put a nismo emblem cause i don't have any nismo stuff, and i can't stand the look of cf hoods (and i haven't seen any cf hood that use stock latches).

my solutions:
-front red silvia emblem
-rear filled with clear putty, and taillights painted with semi-transparent red (or maybe black).

vancouvers14
11-15-2001, 12:07 PM
btw, use an old credit card to get the glue off. its strong and won't scratch your paint. 5 minutes, and your emblems will be off.

11-15-2001, 12:34 PM
why did the holes show up? i dont get why thy would be there.... although i guess theres reasons for everything

vancouvers14
11-15-2001, 02:02 PM
only the "240sx" and "se" emblems are stuck on. both front and rear "nissan" emblems are both glued and held in with small pins. the pins, unfortunately, go through the hood and taillights...

ISOPROPYL RUBBING ALCOHOL!!!!!!! will take off anything sticky, even if its 20 year old adhesive...

ohh yea and its not Goo Off... its GOOF OFF and
GOO GONE...

dont use paint, on any holes that are in the metal, use fiberglass... it's the easiest stuff to work with, and it doesnt crack and chunk away, like paint and BONDO paint wont hold itself on the small thin ring of metal for long... use fiberglass and then sand it down nicely and paint it...
so much better than paint/bondo/filler/or tape at that matter...

my car's fast enough to back up the emblems, so i really care what anyone says. i don't have a turbo, and i don't really want one, but hey, it is a silvia chassis, i have japanese wheels, japanese exhaust, and often there are japanese girls in the passenger seat, so the japanese emblems aren't a problem for me.

You should go W/ The black s14 shield in the front {it even has the holes in the right place . }and have the rears blacked out by a bodyshop (100-125$)with a large circle in the red-only section of the rear lights. The bodyshop can use a 50-50 split of clearcoat and black paint and it will still be transparent , and looks A LOT better w/o the factory orange and white!!!!!

The rear will be somewhat skylinesque!!!

i blacked out my taillights on saturday. looks really good. i might add a few more coats next weekend cause it could still be a bit darker. i should get the emblems any day now, and i'll probably get the silvia grille this week too. there's a couple on ebay.

only one problem:
do i put the rear silvia emblem where its supposed to go (on the left trunk lid) or do i put it in the middle of my taillights to cover the holes (which really aren't that noticeable since i painted them black, but i'm picky like that)

S13Grl

The emblem (that says Silvia in weird letters) you should put in the middle where the "Nissan" used to be. The shield you should put in the front.

took out every piece. cleaned then with acetone. light sanding with 400 grit. 20 coats of vinyl paint (it streches and contracts with temp. changes). re-install. about 10-20 minutes between coats. and since you have everything taken apart, do a general vacuuming, cleaning.

Just to let you know, gold is one of the hardest colors to match and to paint.

My car is black , and I did the same as vanc. , only taped off a big red circle on each side (since my car is black, I wanted some red still showing) It looks #### good , and almost like a skyline . My girlfriend should be taking pics soon of the tail and the eyelids so you guys can see.

HEY Vancouver , I'm glad you took my advice , it looks Beeeeeautiful!!!

Hmm I like the tails in black.. got me thinkin =)
I like the red interior, but I'm wondering what it'd look like to paint the same parts you did on my car only have a bodyshop color match them to my green car? hmmm =) might look pirty good. .

As for the Silvia badges "a la Ferrari" . . I dunno. . they're curved to fit the hood. . 94-96 hood badges might fit a bit easier, they're smaller and a lil flatter. I've got a 94-96 green / gold emblem on my 97 hehe.. and another guy here has a 97-98 on his 96 haha. . ironic. .

i was gonna match the pieces to my exterior color, but you can't just use regular paint, and i couldn't find the paint in gold. remember, you're painting on plastic and vinyl, and those pieces contract and expand with the temperature changes

http://www.wheelmax.com/Wheels/Giovanna/kyoto-sm.gif They're called Kyotos. On his car, they're gunmetal. Not sure how much they cost. He got them through a local shop, Driver's Image (http://www.driversimage.com). They look really dope in real life.

Mladen, he didn't do the third brake light on purpose, I think... I kinda like it that way too.
