Well, for yrs ive had the Turbonetics T04B H3 turbo. It was my very 1st turbo purchased and have had it for over 5 yrs now. I finally decided to upgrade and purchased a 60-1 turbo by Bullseye (aka Borg Warner)
Im still not convinced that this is a 60-1 turbo cause i removed my old T04B H3 turbo and put in this 60-1 and i felt NO gains at all. 20psi from the old turbo felt the same as 20 psi from this new turbo. thats not right..!!
So i was told that my tiny FMI was too small for this larger turbo and that i could have possibly been heat soaking it. So i went ahead and got a larger FMI but left the same IC piping. Went out for a test drive and the power finally came on. Now i was slightly convinced but not 100%. What i did at 20 psi from the old turbo, i now got at ~16psi from the new turbo. I expected a LOT more... Considering the talk about the 60-1....
Now my entire hot pipe is 2 inches and all the cold pipe is 2.5 inches with Z32 maf which we all know is 3 inches... and the stock throttle body is 2.75 inches...
I just went on-line and priced out some larger IC piping (2.5 inch hotpipe and 3 inch cold pipe) and it came out to about $125 shipped with everything i need. Is it worth the $$ spent for the amount of power that can possibly be gained...??
My goals are 400 whp by 17-18psi on pump gas (which is why i got the 60-1 cause MANY other ka's out there are putting down 400 whp by 17-18 psi on pump gas with STOCK cams and BUILT motors with 60-1's....) where b4 i did 424 whp on 25-27psi and race gas on the T04B H3....
Last question.... Does anyone know how to check this turbo to see if its in fact a 60-1...?? The inlet is only 3 inches and outlet is 2 inches..... All the 60-1's i see have 4 inch inlets and 2.5 outlets..... it says is 60lb/min flow rate, but to see the same power levels on only 4 psi less.... maybe im expecting too much..?? Were talking 60lbs/min vs the old turbo at ~40lbs/min max at top efficiency...
In case ur wondering this is what i have:
