I've done a mild search for SR20VET head's on SR20DET bottom ends, and found little to nothing.

A couple of reliable people have told me it produces positive results... can anyone else offer any input on the subject?

It's been done. There are pics and threads here on zilvia.

Couldn't find the thread. I'd like to read up on it, I'll probably have to search elsewhere.

They currently run this setup on their S15 drag car. The main issue with going to the VE head is the dizzy. It hits the firewall. Mazworx got around this by removing the dizzy and installing a hall effect sensor on the front of the motor (works kinda like the cam sensor on the det). There may be a kit for this conversion from Mazworx in the future.

Its a pretty good deal if you can get a ve head for about $1k. In stock trim, it will flow better than a ported SR head, and it doesn't have rocker arms (yay!). Also, the stock cams have some pretty good lift, and the N1 cams are just awesome, and are currently the cams used in the Mazworx S15 drag car.

I was considering it myself, but the biggest hangup I had was custom exhaust manifold would have to be made (the exhaust ports are huge on the VE head, requiring a different manifold), as well as a custom intake manifold, as the VE's will face backwards. You also have to run a oil feed to the head a-la LS/VTEC style. For more information you're better off just emailing mazworx. The basic breakdown of what you need to do for the swap is:

Standalone ECU (required for hall-effect sensor) I know the AEM EMS, and Haltech E8 can do this, Power FC's can't
Hall-effect sensor mod (mazworx can explain this better)
Oil feed/blockoff
Exhaust manifold
Intake manifold

Depending on the turbo you're running, you'd be better off using a SR20VE head on a smaller turbo, and a SR16VE head if running a larger. There is more overlap in the 16VE, as well as more lift, or if running a big ass turbo, you could use the N1 cams in either motor.

Supertech valve springs for the DE don't work in the VE, but from what I've gathered, H22A valve springs will work.

Thats about all I know really.

Yeah I've been looking into this monstrous project for way to long now also. this is basically what I've gathered correct me if I'm wrong or you know better.

Head mounts up to block, but cas hits firewall. bang it out , or custom cut and weld a notch.
gotta drill head between 3 and 4th exhaust runners for oil intake if I remember correctly
as for manifolds U can us a low port s14 intake manifold ( so the intake faces the front, not the rear of the car), but u should also port mani to take benefits of increased flow from the new head, and to better match ports. or just cut all the runners off stocker, flip intake and re-weld.
full-race has a exhaust manifold for the sr20ve, there u go if you got the coin. if u dont shit u shouldn't being doing the swap anyways. a nice twin scroll gt3076 external wastage would be a nice combo. but thats all personall choice there...
and then your computer needs a update, standalone, greddy emanage ultimate... idk something to run this sweet as bitch...
alot of custom work and pretty pennies spent. check or sr20forum I think for more, (sorry I know I'm a whore, I get around .lol)

Just wanted to take the time to show the difference in quality when it comes to forum members addressing relevant subjects.

It's been done. There are pics and threads here on zilvia.

(Inferior, irrelevant posts.)

Thanks Geno, good looking out.

Thanks Geno, good looking out.

Your welcome, good luck if your going to tackle this project. I wish I just took the plunge and sold my apexi turbo setup and bought a VE motor instead of building up the DE head that I have.

I'm planning on doing this, just not sure when lol. I'm going to prob pound out the firewall a little so the SR20VE 20V Cas will clear.

Part Number:23731-8H600- Description:CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

Not sure if would have to switch the CAS disk out of the RWD to make it jell with the DET ecu or not. You could use the factory lower intake manifold and make a new plenum. I'm trying to get this to work with the stock ecu to save $$$ lol.

You will not find a SR20VET head/engine.

You'll need to get an SR20VE head.

Search harder you'll find your answer. Some things deserve to be hard to obtain.

HINT: Check some more SR oriented forums.
