So i have been working on my car for a while. Thing never wants to run right..

so question. Even when pulley is at second to last mark, cams at 12 o'clock and 10 o'clock. 5-20-8 dots. Can cam timing still be off??

Another question.

Even if the chain skipped a tooth at bottom, but you still have all spec. Like above will it still run correctly.

The problem im having is that I turned my sr back to stock b/c of problems with ecu. But now my car runs really rough i do still have the after market spring and retainers in there. (meant for 272 bc cams) Will that make the motor sound rough??

Any answers will help im just trying to pin point the problem im having. Thanks

How Is the Cas? Is It Tdc? Pull out spark plug number one and put a long extension or something and make sure It comes all the way up and see where it Is on the Main crank pulley.. bad spark? Check coil pack ground

Ya i pulled spark plug out to check to make sure it was at TDC.

Ok the the weird thing is that i ran the car for a day with the cams ecu z32 maf. It had a bad idle and response at till 3k, then boost started to kick in and it took off pretty hard. Later that night it wouldnt start again. Trying to play with the CAS timing more never got it to start again. I figured if was ecu (so everyone told me) I put stock stuff back on Maf, ecu and injectors. And taking off the BC cams i noted it looked a tooth off. (to the left exhaust cam at about 11:55 if that makes sense) So i move both cams over one tooth still making it 5-20-8 It looked dead on. I hand cranked it everything cleared go to start it, everything is stock, and it sounded like it had cams!?? really rough. I was so certain i got cam timing right. played with CAS some more while it was like that never got better. (when i say play i mean like bring it to TDC, 2 mark and match dots.)

So i pulled cam again and put it like it was before a tooth back and same problem. It sounds really bad.

I figure my shit all F#CKed up now or has been.

Sorry for the essay but im sick of working on this motor again any help will be great. Thanks

How were u messing with the cas? I usually run 5 1/2..20..9 on the theeth.. tdc the motor... take out the cas. face the back of It to your chest and turn It clock wise till you hit the three dots..align the notch pn the cas In the middle dots on the shaft of the cas and put It back In making sure It doesn't spin or anything. ...I got the specs somewhere On my comp. I'll send It to you..

Second to last mark which side?

Second to last from the left on the crank pulley is TDC.

Second to last from the right is 15° BTDC.

It could be that you're not putting tension on the chain before you finally get the chain situated on the cam gears, and thus when you rotate the crank 2 revolutions, and by the time the #1 piston is back to TDC an the beginning of the compression stroke, your timing would have been off.

Make sure that you can repeat that process a few times, and everytime your timing returns to the right spot.

Only then should you stab your CAS in there.

ill sell you my PFC.. im sure you can get teh 272s and injectors to work fine with that.. then you can sell your ECU for like 150 and cover some of the cost ;)
