ok, so the engine was rebuilt after sitting for like 5 years....
i put on a battery, go for the start, and it cranks, but doesnt start..:-/
any ideas...??
battery is good, my neighbor uses it on his 240.:2f2f:

i took out the spark plug wire from the distributor...and there is spark.

that's exactly what my car sounds like right now. i just rebuilt it. people have been telling me that it might be internals like a clearance issue or something.

#1 add a little oil to each cylinder to help build compression. on that note, not a bad idea to prime the motor by hand so it doesn't spin dry on the starter.
#2 your spark timing is almost certainly off. tdc the motor and restab the distributor; make sure its not 180 degrees off (cam lobes should face outwards at tdc, not inwards).
when you restab a distributor you have to keep in mind the pin tells you where it needs to be after install. the rotor always rotates rightwards during install. if you just line it up with the pin mark per the fsm and jam it in, this usually results in you being one tooth off. car will either not start, or start and run rough with the distributor maxed in one direction.
