Ok my dumb ass attempted to start my car without pushing in the clutch, now my car wont even start. Everything electrical works ;radio, lights, seatbelt, etc. just the engine wont start. i just hear one click under the dash by the clutch pedal where the clutch safety switch is. I need to know how to fix that so i can drive my car again. Please help!!!

disconnect it and then try it or disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few then try again.

i did all that disconnected the battery let it sit. tried to jump start it still nothing
bypass it.
weird how did that happen tho.
if u try to start the car while not pushing clutch it doesnt do jack.
take teh 2 wires from the switch and put a jumper cable now you can try to start your car with out pushing in clutch. a lil bit dangerous if your car is in gear.
if that works then its forshure your switch.

It's the starter. Rock your car back and forth in neutral. Or tap on the starter with a long bar.

Its pretty much near your oil filter. If you are standing on the passenger side, its the big round thing next to it on your left (towards the EGR valve). Hopefully someone has pictures so they can show you where it is. It's impossible to miss.

im not looking at my engine right now but are you talking about my alternator? thats the only big round thing i can think of thats by my oil filter.

look for something more cylindrical...it's pretty much the same shape as the oil filter, just bigger, plus the solenoid is attached to it

starting the car without pushing in the clutch wont do anything...
did you start it without the clutch while it was in gear? if thats the case then im gonna have to go with the above statement and say that its highly probable that your starter is whats giving you the problem.

Double check your grounds.
Put your car to the on position, you should hear the fuel pump turn on.
Goto your engine bay, connect the ground wire on the starter to the power on it. If it doesnt turn the motor or start the car the starter should be the root of the problems.

^ grounds. im pretty sure. same thing happened to me a week ago. fixed the bad ground and it started right up

try push starting it. if it starts, then it may be the starter or the grounds like the above said.

i would still check the starter if i was you. just the other day at work my buddy was driving to the store and his car was running perfectly fine. he shut it off and went inside. when he came back out his car wouldnt even attempt to turn over and it turned out to be a bad starter.

Just find your starter, hit it with a long pipe, similiar to a jack stand handle, and you should be good.
...that is til it wont work anymore.
which means buy a starter.

I had the same problem recently with my clutch safety switch, though I was still able to push start my car to get it home. I ended up just replacing the switch so I wouldn't have to deal with the hassle of push starting everytime while I tried to diagnose. $2 part at autozone or wherever but it is a b!tch hanging upside down in the seat or twisting yourself to get to it to work on it.

just enough to get it rolling pretty good, but easist way is to push start is in reverse. works every time ive had to do it.

wait you tried to bypass the starter?? Haha. Hoping it will start on hopes and dreams?
They meant to by-pass the safety switch, NOT the starter, you kinda need that.
And to who ever was asking, hitting the started does work, I did it for about a month, then that stopped working and had to stop procrastinating and actually change it.

Damn man WTF, one thing at a time. Did you get your starter tested? If so what were the results? If you hit the starter and it didn't work, chances are it's dead.
If it's dead, it's dead you need a new starter, period.
And no you can't bypass the starter, WTF...
To bypass the clutch safety switch, there's two wires that go to the clutch, connect those two with whatever method makes u happy. I think at this point in time ur probably best with it on, LOL...

It's two bolts holding that thing in. Get dirty, crawl under there, remove it, take it to vatozone, get it checked, reinstall new or old one...your choice. This thread should have been four posts long.
-op my car won't start
-zilvia check your starter
-op ok i'll check that
-op thank you zilvia, that was the problem. This was so easy to fix once I crawled under the car and got dirty.

It's probably the combination switch/stalk on your steering column. The contacts wear out over time and no longer make the connections. The exact same thing happened to me. Replacing the switch should fix the problem. If you know how to use a multi-meter and the FSM, you can test your old switch before buying a new one.
