revs drop while braking, while coming to a full stop.

So I have a 97 180sx sr20det in my car with a j4 ecu, the idle is set to about 1000 rpms, well maybe 900 rpms. anyways while driving, i need to slow down to stop, so i would put it in nuetral, and slow down to a stop. whether it be in traffic or at a stoplight or sign, Some times, well often the rpm level will drop to 500 or 600 rpm level, and then it will go back to the regular idle speed as soon as i am stopped. but it would dip down. I am not sure what this is. I am running a FMIC, but i am still using the stock recirculating BOV.

any help will do. If i have left out any information that is relevant to diagnosing this problem please ask, and i will reply.

IACV, it's a pretty common problem

yeah, I have a simliar problem. It's an intermittent problem. I've cleaned my IACV with cleaner and it still dips occasionally.

What is a IACV?

Intake Air Control Valve

Clean the plunger so that it doesn't seize or stick.
Also check that the spring isn't broken.

And get yourself an FSM.

+1 for Idle Air Control Valve.


It's on the intake manifold in between the 2nd and 3rd runners. Has a screw on top. You cant miss it.
Edit: Thats where it is on the S13 SR. Not sure about the 180 SR.
