Averaged 21mpg on my last tank, even with some stupid revving/driving mixed in with highway.

yeah, start with a tune up. when i got my bone stock 92, i was getting 22-ish mpg's on average with 145,xxx miles on it. i did fuel filter, spark plugs, checked the wires, and other stuff that has nothing to do with mileage but just general maintenance. i have always ran shell v-power (92 octane) through it because it has been proven to clean the engine/injectors. the gas door says use only premium unleaded. anyway, now i am getting 27-ish mpg's in town and 29+ mpg's on the highway with 153,xxx on the car. i am actually impressed with the mileage because my s14 was getting like 13 mpg's with its weak motor.

i drive pretty mildly. few hard corners here and there but no reason to race anyone. stock ka doesn't put up much fight. try babying it for a tank and see if anything changes. $4.00 per gallon is too expensive to waste revving, haha.

yeah just the basic general maintenance items. i don't think there is a set list but what you said is definitely a good start.

Yeah I was averaging 26-28mpg on city/highway mix. I definitely get 30 or more on road trips on highway only (like 450 miles per tank). I run 89 octane if that makes any difference at all. I also rev just under 3k....well I try to, a lot of times it'll be around 3500. 97 with all of the emissions and an intake and exhaust (stock header/downpipe and cat).

My SR with a T28 gets ~28mpg on the highway. I was pretty shocked when I realized it.
Do you have a fuel leak? The only thing I can think of that would cause you to get five mpg would be if your gas is just leaking out the bottom of the car. Check all your lines, see if it's leaking at the injectors, things like that.

My old KA-T got 24-26mpg and my friends old red top (stock minus full 3" exhaust and FMIC....and 15psi) got 28-30mpg driving around. I am excited about getting my stock ass S14 SR in, haha.

I think part of the explanation is that I have a GTiR T28, which is non-ball bearing and .86 A/R so it doesn't really boost until I get into the gas pedal. If I keep the revs low enough around town, it's almost like being N/A. I imagine if I had an S14 T28 it would get slightly lower mileage because it'd be harder to stay out of boost.
It's not so great for low-end torque and spirited driving, but great when you're paying $4/gallon. :D

I can do 27-30mpg with no highway driving.
High throttle low rpm shifting (<2200), coasting in neutral ect.
Also if you can stand it, slowing down and driving on the fwy at 55-65 will save a lot of gas too.

the "freeway" speed can vary alot, in some states, its like 55mph, but here in cali is like 65mph, but usually we drive 70+, so theres a difference in the engine speed...thus consuming more fuel
I got 31mpg last weekend. Although that was 100% highway driving (Toronto to Montreal).
Usually on my stock KA I get 21-23mpg highway/city driving.

24mpg average is dead on (if you go by published figures from Nissan). I believe Nissan reported 21mpg city and 26mpg highway for our cars.
But I do believe that people can get more than that if they are on the highway and maintaining 55-65mph on cruise control (no AC or anything like that).

Word, a properly maintained car w/ the right driving habits can do way over EPA estimates.
My average milage for today: 32.6 all city, tons of coasting in neutral to achieve this though.

ooooh you have a scangauge. i want one but its not obd1 compatible.
ive kept fuel logs on my ka since november 07, avg 22 to 27mpg. new o2 sensor does alot if its bad. ac doesnt take that much mpg if you drive normal, like .5 to 1mpg for me.
you want more mileage? get a tune on a stock ka. i hear you can get something like 35 mpg with a tune. stock kas run rich, tune = more power and less gas . of course its got to be in good condition beforehand

Guys,
What did you guys get 26+mpg? I use 91Octane gas from 76. Shift ~2400rpm, top speed @ 70mph, SUPER gentle acceleration with very minor traffic city & Hwy drive. I gets 25.9mpg. This is done with new fuel filter, spark plugs and spark plug wires, K&N drop in filter and GReddy Ti-C exhaust.
I installed the Sun Voltage System GT and gain 1mpg. As a result, I have 26.9mpg for the best record. (For ppl. who interested in Sun voltage system, I'd suggest the MR version. I've tested that and feel the same as the GT except to have alittle more respone on the low end. Same gas milage gain).

i honestly think its just luck of the draw and how the car was cared for before you got it. you might baby the heck out of it and take great care of it now, but that isn't going to undo over 100,000 miles (for most of us) of damage being done before you got it.
on the flipside of that, i have never compression tested mine, it has a nasty oil leak, and has just a basic tune-up but still gets great mileage. i think you are doing pretty good at 26.9mpg.

my old s14 got way better gas milage at 80mph than 65, 400 a tank vs 355
could of been that stupid short ram that came with the car I don't know
my new s14 that was 100% stock except coilovers and s13 front end had even better. It got 485 on mostly highway at 65 and closer to 550 when i didn't let the rpms drop below 2500 rpm while moving
lower engine speed does not always equate to better fuel efficiency

550 miles per tank? how big is the s14 fuel tank? from empty to full, my s13 takes usually ~13 gallons. if s14's are the same, you are claiming to have gotten 42.3mpg.

My S14 KA24 with Injen intake gets pretty bad MPG, I don't even bother to calculate it. It burns oil and has 195K+ miles on it. :ugh:
However, the fuel is still affordable, it's paid for, and if i really start hurting I know i can spend a weekend replacing it with a fresh KA and probably double my mileage. :hsdance:

Before I put in Iridium plugs I would get 300-320 on a tank if I was lucky. This past week I got around 28 mpg, all highway with some stoplights every so often. The Iridiums made more of a difference in mileage than I thought for sure.
