yeah, start with a tune up. when i got my bone stock 92, i was getting 22-ish mpg's on average with 145,xxx miles on it. i did fuel filter, spark plugs, checked the wires, and other stuff that has nothing to do with mileage but just general maintenance. i have always ran shell v-power (92 octane) through it because it has been proven to clean the engine/injectors. the gas door says use only premium unleaded. anyway, now i am getting 27-ish mpg's in town and 29+ mpg's on the highway with 153,xxx on the car. i am actually impressed with the mileage because my s14 was getting like 13 mpg's with its weak motor.

Yeah I was averaging 26-28mpg on city/highway mix. I definitely get 30 or more on road trips on highway only (like 450 miles per tank). I run 89 octane if that makes any difference at all. I also rev just under 3k....well I try to, a lot of times it'll be around 3500. 97 with all of the emissions and an intake and exhaust (stock header/downpipe and cat).

My SR with a T28 gets ~28mpg on the highway. I was pretty shocked when I realized it.
Do you have a fuel leak? The only thing I can think of that would cause you to get five mpg would be if your gas is just leaking out the bottom of the car. Check all your lines, see if it's leaking at the injectors, things like that. |

I think part of the explanation is that I have a GTiR T28, which is non-ball bearing and .86 A/R so it doesn't really boost until I get into the gas pedal. If I keep the revs low enough around town, it's almost like being N/A. I imagine if I had an S14 T28 it would get slightly lower mileage because it'd be harder to stay out of boost.
It's not so great for low-end torque and spirited driving, but great when you're paying $4/gallon. |

High throttle low rpm shifting (<2200), coasting in neutral ect. Also if you can stand it, slowing down and driving on the fwy at 55-65 will save a lot of gas too.

the "freeway" speed can vary alot, in some states, its like 55mph, but here in cali is like 65mph, but usually we drive 70+, so theres a difference in the engine speed...thus consuming more fuel

But I do believe that people can get more than that if they are on the highway and maintaining 55-65mph on cruise control (no AC or anything like that). |

Yeah the interstate speed here is only 55. So I go 65 tops....granted there are plenty of people going 70+. When my car does the 28-30mpg on road trips I'm usually going ~75 because Interstate 95 is 65 and everyone goes fast as shit.
