I was going through random small motorcycle magazine that my friend had and came across these things that seem to be a growing phenomenon for the anti-vespa small bike scene. I'm quite intrigued by how cool they look. Anyone know anything about them??

Don't know what model this is

This is the Honda Zoomer, which caught my eye the most.

If I can find the right spot for some further research, I might invest in one of these. They seem to be pretty big in Europe right now though.

Here a clip with a bunch of guys in UK riding around in Zoomers. Good to know that they weren't as small as I thought. Wasn't really into those pocket bike sizes haha

They have the Honda Ruckus at the local bike shop. They look cool and are fairly cheap. Also have a nice spot for a backpack under the seat.

The Ruckus/Zoomer is just like a Honda Elite only with a more modern engine. I have an Elite from when I was 15, and my good friend has one of those "monkey bikes" from the 80s. The elite was way more fun, the monkey bikes are super unstable and uncomfortable.

So did I. Fun little thing. I always felt like I was about to touch the ground or get bucked off, one or the other. I can't imagine riding that now that I'm all growns up.

Those ruckus things are cool for scooters I suppose. If you have a short commute why not? I can't get into the modding scene for those though.

The first one you pictured is a Honda 50 Mini Trail. I have a 1968 from Cali so it has a title and I could drive it on the street if I wanted to. All my aunts and uncles and my mother learned to ride on it and then then all my cousins and I and many many friends have learned on it. The things a friggin tank and it still starts up to this day.

We've also got two like the one BH pictured and a Honda Trail CT90 too (my grandfather has a thing for older bikes). I love em shits fun as hell to ride.

Also got a Yamaha Chappy 50 lol. Take a look at them, stupid fun old bike too.

Funny story, I am pretty sure that is a JC Penny Pinto frame or equivelent, mine is similar, chopped seat post, drop bars, black, etc, but I welded in a top tube. Looking at 110cc 4 stroke engines on ebay with 4 speed manual transmissions. We shall see, I kinda want to sell it and get a big boy bike, but I dunno.

Let me be the first to tell you, you'll never look back.

Scooters are cool, because you have some of the freedom of being on a bike (some = you can cut through traffic, but you can't maneuver or out-run anything)... but for the amount of money that some guys spend on their scooters, you could have gotten a perfectly good "real bike".

In Japan it makes more sense because they have much different licensing restrictions (used to be based on displacement, don't know if it still is) and much less room to play 'at speed'. Here, the whole US road system can be your playground :)

As a basic rule, if you're spending anywhere near $3.5k, you need to be buying something with full fairings that'll do 180mph.

240trainee
04-02-2008, 01:21 PM
Yea, I want to build an old Honda CBR.

Cool thing is there is a giant moped scene in Richmond. If I rebuild my blown stock motor, I could probably sell it for $700 the way it sits, and I've spent less than $100 on it. with a 4 speed and stealthy 110cc, I have no doubt I can only make money on it. It is just against my nature to get rid of anything half done unless I absolutly have to.

home made turbo, n20, mill the head for more compression et c. its an internal combustion engine, what would you like to do first? options are boundless....

You're gay. I still might buy your ped when you're done with it though, regardless of the whole gay thing.

I have an 08 Ruckus and I love it to death. Pretty close to stock still but it's a lot of fun to cruise around on.

yeah, its true, once you get a real bike, you'll never actually go back. i tried to, found a cheap ruckus for 1500, but then for less than that couple days ago i found another toy. the kit sits wayyyy too low. i scratch on speedbumps or random bumps on the road.(sorrry this is a scooter thread)

scooters are crazy fun, and you can wheelie the zuma i had, it was just hard to keep it up for a very long time unless you stood on the seat. you could also launch em off and off things. wish i had a video of me messing around before i sold it

Me and some buddies ( all motorcyclists ) where talking about starting a scooter polo league.

1980's Honda Elites and stuff like that can be had for the cost of a set of track day tires.

How fun would that be to have a rough ass tournament with stripped down scooters and a bunch of guys in full moto gear!
