Tomei Technical Trax 2-Way...
Love it even when its clunky in parking lots. Instant lock up as if I have a button to lock it. Also when just driving, I can notice the car slingshot around corners and "relax" when I let off the throttle. Its amazing how much you notice it working but stays predictable.

Can you guys list how much you paid and what was required for installation as well? I will be replacing/rebuilding my diff in a year or so and I want some opinions from people that own them.

I paid 730 shipped since me and a friend ordered ours at the same time. Also, I got a "how to" off of Nicoclub and followed the directions and with the help of a friend we got mine all installed in the pumpkin. After that all we had to do was switch pumpkins, I had a spare, and this took place at a meet we had at our friends shop. It was a really good experience and felt good knowing that I had a hand in installing that. All you really need man is a bench vise(sp?) and a good torque wrench. Oh and some loctite..
My tomei didn't need to be shimmed and it works perfect but my friends Helical did. He took that to a shop and paid 100 for install. So hope that give you an idea..

Quaife Diff - $1420
New Bearings, gaskets and seals - ~$100
got a spare housing that i took apart and cleaned up, got all the old gunk and fluid out. powder coated the diff cover. rebuilt using all new parts because i dont want to take it apart again, and to keep noise down. ill let you know how it works once it quits snowing here so i can drive the car again.
Quaife compared to stock, obvious differences

carbonetics 1.5 way. metal, not carbon plates. cost about 1k. clunky at low speeds, but super smooth engagement. not as harsh as the kaaz 2 way i used to have. install was straight forward, came with new bearings already pressed on. after install i didn't even hafto adjust backlash. i checked it with that colored pasty stuff and it was right on.

Weld Lock. A full cube. This piece aint going nowheres.
To be honest Ive driven harder since my weldloc and I can't really notice that much difference in tire wear besides it being more even. Then again I was running Falkens with the bootiest treadwear rating. Switching to dunlops so we will see.
I was going to a 2 way when the welds broke but doesn't look that that will be anytime soon.

From outside experience, I would suggest to not trust the adaptor (i.e. Phantom) kind if your car is going to be under heavy, stressful driving or high WHP goal. I have seen them either shred the gears or crack under load or both. But everyone's experience and preference is different and respected, of course.
I installed a Quaife in my last car and I loved it though it was a FWD application which is best suited for. With the 240, from my research, I'm eyeing the KAAZ or Cusco and probably 2 way for my ultimate goal in the future.
Best of luck on your decision.

The problem i have with the KAAZ, Cusco and carbonetics diffs is they need to be rebuilt, most likely often with the way most of us drive their cars. The quaife is a lifetime warranty and will never need rebuilt. Its also better suited to road racing, for drifting i would probably want something that locked a bit quicker

i replaced all the turbo gaskets on a silvia that was imported and the diff on that was agressive. low speed turns(parking lot turning) the inner wheel would slip. im looking for something along those lines
That sounds like a welded diff
Also I read you have a track coilover set up with stiff springs, same thing im running
Track set up + Welded diff + Low speed turns (like threw stop lights infront of cops) = SUCKS!!!!!
My welded diff would bounce like hell threw low speed turns(cuz springs are soo stiff). Not only did it eat the CV axle's, but it wore the crap out of the sub frame bushings, Don't even wana think of the stress it was putting on everything else. But it ate tires like crazy. So unless you are building a track only car I would not run a welded diff!!
My Low Mile JDM 5 Bolt Vlsd Works Awesome!!!!!! And for about 250 -375 in the for sale section you can find one. I also heard you can shim these up and pretty much lock them witch I don't know why you would wana do that cuz it works perfect I can pretty much lock it up on comand and when it locks it locks smooth and easy to control. The Key is get a low mile one cuz most people that say these suck, It's because they had a beat drifted on 160k mile diff. Sure after that long the clutch packs are going to wear out. Mine only has about 15k of auto non drift use and felt supper sweet when you spun it by hand.:snoop:

the only con to a hlsd is, if one wheel is up in the air, it becomes an open diff. so if your slammed like i am, you will still three wheel over bumps.
and plus, a welded is not THAT bad for DDing.

mines set at a aggressive lock, so going slow on hard turns will make a thunk thunk sound its not a constant chattering noise from a welded diff, and its not extremely loud as other brands. It "shakes" the rear end too... i was told that using motul or nismo's own oil will make it less clunky. i do drive it daily too, staying on throttle while turning will eliminate that thunk sound or clutching it will too. shit grips the road i love it!

The quaife is a lifetime warranty and will never need rebuilt. Its also better suited to road racing, for drifting i would probably want something that locked a bit quicker
A Quaife never locks, they are torque biasing differentials like S15 HLSD's. In a drift t'll constantly try to transfer power back and forth to the tire with more grip but it does not have the capability to "lock". That's why they're great for the street, because they're completely transparent where a welded or overly aggressive clutch diff will produce understeer unless you power out of it into oversteer.\
I had an ATS Deftforce and when the drift events dried up in my area I got sick of the way it made the car feel so I bought an old vlsd and now just drive the shit out of my car on the street. I can still slide a bit on the rare occasions that I both want to and can get away with it so i'm happy enough with that.

Iv Had VLSD, Welded, 1.5Way and a 2Way. I can say that the Welded worked the best on my KA, but when i did my power upgrades in my other KA the 2way Worked sooo much better overall, Drifting, AUto-x, and some spirited driving. Driving in the Rain with Welded at 80MPH in CA isnt soo bad as long as you have good tires.
