View Full Version : Why is it 240 better than other cars???

So yeah. I currently have a 2001 E320. For people out there that own that car will know they are pain in the ass to keep. Costs too much on maintenance. It's basically falling apart. I'm pretty sure the tranny's gonna have problem soon. Now I need your help!!! I convinced my father to sell that car before the transmission gives up. I'm trying to get a Zenki again, but my father was like if you can give me good enough reasons why you should get a 240 other than camry. Then he will let me get my Zenki!! Help me out guys~~!!!! please don't tell me cuz it's good for drifting. haha That will not help at all

s14 or s13? j/w
The only thing better about the 240 is the fact that it's more fun to drive and looks better.
maybe you can tell him it only has room for one passenger so you'll have less friends in it?

everything is pretty cheap pretty crappy on mileage which doesnt help but insurance and registration doesnt cost and arm and a leg. Other than that its sporty and parts are ez to come by and most of the time ez to repair yourself.

S14 Zenki! The only things that i came up with is that.
1. if I buy a brand new camry, I probably have to do down payment. so I will probably have to get full coverage for the insurance. which is a lot for me since i have 3 points on my license. If I get a 240, then I can just get the liability.
2. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Nissan1995.shtml
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Toyota2008.shtml
For the gas mileage, it's not even that much of a different.

cheap parts....huge forums like this one where you can get used parts and tons of support from the online community that can help you fix your car for yourself rather that having to bring it to a garage
EDIT: my zenki cost me $2500 and I pay $80 a month for insurance

Good luck if you want reasons to convince your parents to buy you a coupe instead of a practical car :bowrofl: (I like 240s, but let's be honest, the camry is much better if you're not gonna be having fun in your car)

if you have the option of a brand new camry or a car thats twelve years old you would be stupid to not get the camry. if you cant afford your own car at age 21 then you should be happy you are getting another car from your parents at all.
dont be stupid and get a 240 since you have no other vehicle

To be honest you're going to get pulled over a lot more in the 240, especially in San Jose.

insurance still wont be cheap if you have 3 points on your license, and parts may be cheaper but in the long run with mods it will end up costing you a lot more, also keep in mind that even the newest 240 is still almost 10 years old and things WILL start to break, I've already had to replace an alternator, my speakers were dead when I bought it, my interior needs to be completely redone and good luck if you're having to transport people or objects of any real size like I have been.
honestly, I wish I would've waited and gotten a cheaper car because right now I could've bought an evo or sti new off the lot, even a lower priced Lexus if I hadn't spent all my money on my 240.
and as someone else said, if you're not going to race on the weekends just get a better daily driver, Toyota's are still good cars
and for god sakes I hope those points aren't from street racing, if so please please don't get a 240.
as for the being cheaper part, I have over 5k in my engine and am not too far away from the 4k mark on suspension and thats not even touching my interior or wheels and tires, 240's are only cheap if you like to cut corners
or if I would have saved my money I would have a little more than 15000 to drop on a down payment on a new car or a better condition used one

see the thing is that I ownd a 240 before and I know how it is. I would much rather have a 240. I could buy this on my own, but i don't have the permission that's it. For the insurance's part. I probably have to get full insurance with a brand new car, but with 240 I will just to liability. that makes a huge different

meh true I guess it depends on ur parents....legally you can do whatever you want tho, Im in the same situation but Im 20 but IMHO they should respect your decision making ablility and realize the fact thats its your money and buying a car you can pay cash for makes better economic sense than buying one you would have to make payments on....unless they want to help you pay for it its not really fair to tell you what you can and cant do with your money....also do you really think theyd stop paying for your school if you did this?
I obviously know nothing about you or your family, just voicing my very humble opinion....lol Im in the same type of situation with my fam....trying to convince my fam to cosign a loan for a bike lol

Well I respect your respect for your parents. Especially living under their roof. If you were on your own in your own place it would be different. Honestly I can tell you right now. Convincing him on a 240 will be a tough sell in my opinion. I would say steer him off a Camry and towards a IS300 its still RWD its a 225hp inline 6 (love for the 2JZE). Its pratical and fun. Get a 240 on your own dime because they are inexpensive to pick up. Make it the weekend project car and drive the IS300 daily. Best of both worlds that way.
drift freaq nailed it, thats why I was asking. You can pick up a used IS300 for a decent price.

Screw the camry and the 240sx. Get the new GOLF or RABBIT for your daily driver/college years car!!
Isn't the camry still one of the #1 stolen cars??
and if you do get a 240, u need a S14 since your in college. u cant afford to be working on a car all the time. plus its more comfy for the ladies.
Really, I would find a really nice S14 with lower miles, and take your dad with you to test drive it. Give him a turn behind the wheel as well, it'll help sell him on how comfy and smooth the S14 runs.
HUGE aftermarket parts for 240's too. Not that you need coil overs, but should a strut go, u got a thousand people here with old stock suspension to give away!
in the end, its up to you and your gut. Deep down you know the answer. so just do that. your only 21. buy whatever car ya gotta now, and in less than 3 years, get a 240 on the side.?.

get a 240 zenki or kouki.
1) you are a college student, even a stock 240sx still looks cooler than a camry. Just about every other college kid i ran into drives a camry or accord. safe car? yes, but too ordinary.
2) get a 2dr so your bumass friends or classmates won't ask you for rides everywhere.
3) being a college student and driving a fixed up 240 will probably, i say probably, have a higher chance of getting you to score chicks than in a camry? lol Thats if they are into imports of course..

if you can find an s14 with low miles and in good condition you probably wouldn't want to spend the money that they're asking (you would be approaching 10k for 10 year old car?, not this time buddy)
and to whoever says cars help you get ladies, I don't know about you but
A-my s14 is stiff as hell, no girl I've ever had in it likes the ride quality and
B-I've seen way more girls in busted ass cars than in nice ones, lets face it, women have the judgment skills of a lemming when it comes to relationships.
P.S. I bought my s14 with some body and interior damage and payed 5500 and that was below the Blue Book value, the actual value of these cars is actually pretty high, some s13's are technically worth 3k and up
I'm just saying, from personal experience I would wait and buy a nicer car, except that you have that opportunity right now, don't wait.
P.P.S. I don't think I would trust any 10+ year old car that is regularly abused for daily travel, my s14 still runs well and sometimes I'm not even sure if it will get me where I need to go.

Well....let's see, I already said it before. I'm using a brand new camry as a example! since that's the newest and the most reliable car out there. He could end up getting me a 2000 camry. you never know. So please drop it with that "you are stupid for not getting a brand new camry" Please remember the thread is about how to convince my dad to let me buy the 240 and not which one should I buy.
ps. This thread became 3 pages because people are not staying on topic.

My dad paid cash for the mercedes when he bought it. so there's no down payment or anything like that when he passed it to me. Right now I only insure with liability right now. SO~~~That's way cheaper with full coverage, but it's stupid, cuz if I do crash my mercedes. No one's gonna pay for it.

How's your social life? I know its a random question...but so is this thread...
I ask because the 240 can be reliable...but dependent on your social life...its not practical.
I'm eyeing a sedan in the future...possibly M35 or *gasp* G8. I need the room for friends, lady friends and their friends. Room to haul stuff, withstand a drive through D.C. and the pimp factor (from the M).

I'm eyeing a sedan in the future...possibly M35 or *gasp* G8. I need the room for friends, lady friends and their friends. Room to haul stuff, withstand a drive through D.C. and the pimp factor (from the M).
You are right! haha well...I have a gf, and i don't really go out much anymore. Somehow I'm really lazy to go out now... so yeah, that's the main reason i wanna buy a zenki, cuz I don't do much.

Go test drive a 92-99 Bmw 325 for more than half an hour.
Then decide if you want a 240sx. Prices on the cars are not that much more when taking into account "JDM Inflation".

why do you say that? They are two different cars....one of them is actually sporty and has a manual transmission.

why is the 240 so great?
because it feels like how a car is suppose to.
stop saying 240 owners are cheap. ONLY YOU ARE CHEAP.

I dont think majority of the 240sx owners are cheap. I think we are actually smart because we dont just drop our car off at a shop and pick it back up with thousands of dollars in modifications.

S14 Zenki! The only things that i came up with is that.
so I will probably have to get full coverage for the insurance. which is a lot for me since i have 3 points on my license. If I get a 240, then I can just get the liability.
Best reason... girls hate 240's so you'll save a ton of money! hahah

im suprised this thread is still open.
Usually when parents tell you to show them that something is better or worth anything, they already know what there going to do.
Have them buy you a camry, save up a couple checks and buy a 240.

Because they are the next civic

There's nothing wrong with that. Civics are reliable, cheap, simple and modifying them is effective and affordable if you do it right.
FWD is kinda of lame, but it gets the job done, there's plenty of quick civics around.
But then again, what do I know? FWD DUM LOL HONDUH

you see!! being a person that do have respect for his parents and still living underneath his parents' roof, I need to discuss things with my parents. Even with a job, I'm still living with my parents. And they are paying for my school!
Dude, that rocks.
My thoughts....It's a ten+ year old car. More and more of them are disappearing daily (hell, I'm in Japan and have been ordering parts from the US cuz you guys keep stealing all the parts then wrecking them...lol, I saw the crash thread....)
I'd try to appeal to the "I'd like to keep this car for the long haul, kinda like a collectors car." Who know's maybe that will work.
You've definately got a hard sell. Didn't see why you got the points...or what happened to your old zenki, but maybe these are reasons why they are not onboard with you getting another one....? I'm just guessing (not trying to be an :mrmeph: ) but I am thinking the points and getting rid of the old 240 are interlinked somehow....

It will make you become cheap, because even if you aren't right now, you will be just because you are a 240 owner.

Let's see. If you are older than 22 years old. Did your parents pay for your tuition when you went to college?? If they did, then you probably should ask your parents about changing a car and stuff like that. and that's how my parents raised me. thank you
fuck it, thats true. If I could get my rents to drop a dime or even cosign my tuition, I would drive whatever they wanted me to.

So you can drag race and drift on the streets and waste all the money you have on parts that will never amount to anything if resold!!!!:rl:

I was debating between an 06+ sti, 04+ 350z, and 04+ g35.
I ended up buying a 93 240sx coupe. If you like the car enough, then just get it. I've wanted a 240sx for a while and when I came across a deal I couldn't pass it up. I could have had a new, fast car, but I got my 240. And I am actually happy about it. I do not have to drive the 240 everyday though, so if you do then our situations are a little different.
Honestly, I would NEVER buy a camry, but thats just me. Not my style at all.

Get a new car, you will regret buying an old shitbox. I hate these cars but they're cheap as hell.
Your parents are smarter than you give them credit for. I wish I'd listened a long time ago.
