i was wondering if anyone can show me a different option to relocating my harness in the drive side wheel well...

i keep rubbing thru it.. and i dont think my harness can take another event!

thank you!

Take off your fender, Pull the harness up. Get some zipties to hold it tight.

bolt it back up...That what I did.

I am not that slammed but I still rubbed my harness. I moved the harness up and also made a metal plate to protect it.

You can always cut, solder and extend it. wire by wire, so it doesn't hit?

Disconect it at the junction box and route it through your engine bay.

A plate of sheetmetal will work wonders.

either run a plate of sheet metal or relocate it to run through your engine bay. I did the latter. Now i dont have to worry about it ever again. Best method IMO.

hmm. well what size tires are you running? that could fix your problem.

If you are rubbing near where the harness goes thru the firewall, dial in more caster to pull the wheel forward..

My s14 is pretty low, and all I did was tuck the harness and zip tie it up and run some more caster and I have no problems rubbing the harness.

i need tires
12-03-2007, 02:47 PM
caster can fix it also

im running 225/45/17s i was thinkin about going to 215/40/17s that would get the height of the tires atleast an inch lower.

how do i adjust my caster?

revat619
12-03-2007, 02:49 PM
yeah 225/45/17 is tall. I'd run either a 215 or a 235/40 if you want more grip. Yes, 235/40/17 is shorter than 225/45/17

Personally I cut/lengthened/soldered every wire in my car.

As of now my s14 has 245/45/17's up front. With modded fender wells.

Don't forget moving the harness is just one part of dropping your car extremely low.

well this is my daily drifter... it would take too much time to cut and solder every wire.. no yea fun! :(

To adjust caster you need to have adjustable tension rods.

I run a 235/40/17 up front with 2.0 degrees camber, 8 degrees caster iirc, and 0 toe, on a 17x9 +17, and have no rubbing issues, heres a pic so you can get an idea of my ride height..

I would just pull the fender off, tuck the harness up above the rail, and zip tie it down, and also try and pull it back towards the firewall and zip tie it there as well, and then just dial in a little more caster and you shouldnt rub.

And if you slide you will probably like the additional caster because it helps with wheel return.

Take the fender off, there's a triangular piece of sheetmetal that sits at the joint between the apron and the Apillar. Cut it out completely, now you have room to pull the harness further back towards the firewall without stretching it up too much, increasing tire clearance considerably at the back edge. You'll see what I mean when you get into it.

^^^Thats what I did with my old S14. Cut up a notch on the triangular piece, wedged harness thru it. Gave me a bit more room to pull the harness further back away from the wheels.

Besides un-hooking everything and re-routing your stuff...I am in the same boat and I just DRIVE my car every day...not hard in events...so I know how you feel...and I rock camber like its going out of style...:ugh:

I have only bumbed my drivers harness 1-2 times so far...I have re-tied it each time I have broken the tie off

Put nails up in the fender well so if you tire tries to mess with your harness, it will get owned.

I was rubbing the harness sometimes too. After I relocated it above the fender it doesn't rub any more. Like someone else said, it could also be your taller tires. I'm running a 235/40/17 tire, no problem.

But we both have and still do, and that method works fine. Don't be a dick when you're getting spoonfed what you need to know.

I pulled my fender, ziptied it along the top, then bent a piece of steel to hold the harness up higher where it enters the firewall. I gained about 3" of clearance with the steel than with just zipties. Hope this helps.

no problem dude. My tire would have to rub through my fender wells before it would get to the harness, and I honestly don't see that happening.

It's not really hard to do at all, it's not as if everything on an S14 is operated off of can-bus or anything, it's a pretty simple front harness.

I just pulled the harness back through the firewall and mounted the relay box under the dash, then extended what wires needing to go back to the front of the car using extra wiring from another harness.
Run these extra wires through a grommet at the bottom of the firewall, or drill a hole in the floor at the back side of the frame rail and fish them in under the carpet to tuck them completely out of sight.

works good for me

oh word! i already relocated inside engine bay.. seems like the best thing to do

im also gonna weld a piece of metal on the back side of the harness where the grommet is to assure it wont get messed up
