Well, there are several FAQs on zilvia from various other people that went widebody. If you just search for them...I know there is at least 1 that is VERY in depth and should be able to answer every question that you might have. Also, if you haven't done bodywork before you might should take it to a bodyshop. Just to avoid the whole "Oh shit, what have I done to my car?!" speech. :hsdance:

wide fendres are easy
welder
plasma cutter
rivet gun and propane torch and hammer is about all you need
takes a few hours to do it right
i want to mold my rear wides in
looks sooo fucking awesome when its smooth amd molded
but alas, no cash
and it will crack due to regular track events. :(

^^ Thats a good write up...but this picture scares me. I don't like the possibility of the extra fender skin cutting into a tire.

I figure if u cut too much of the rear away, you lose a good bit of structural integrity in the rear which would make the ass of it more flimsy and flexible. Also i dont think you could slam it that low if you're runnin correct size wheels (18inch and larger and hella wide) on widebody to warrant a reason for cutting so far up. Unless you run over an elephant and you dont have coils, you're wheel shouldnt travel that high and outwards to slice your tire. I could be wrong though.
In that writeup the guy did cut above the body line? He just cut it real low at first to split the panels then riveted the inner panel up higher, then lastly he chopped the rest off. 10th pic down you can see he chopped the rest of it off after riveting.

shit NEEDS to be wide and low
WIDE AND LOW
18" wheels . 245 tires
soft rear suspension, mega grip minimal camber.
gotta cut above that line. u can see how much it tucks under this compression.
flimsly? how so? its not the chassis, its thin metal. its not structural at all.
dont fool yourself.
but i guess if u dont do track events and stuff, then meh. whatever.

I'm going to cut my old rear fenders and going widebody in the next few days also. However it would be nice if someone could post some pictures of a S13 hatch where this job had been done properly. I'm especially looking after pictures of the cutting job, as i don't know how high i should cut. Thanks in advance.

Sorry but i can't imagine where the "body line" is located.
Not my car but i think it is still too low ?

See the line running through the middle of the gas cap?
The "line" on the "body"?
Yeah, that one. That's the "body line".

Alright as we all know what the body line is now i think that 1" above the body line is be a bit too high? I think if i'll cut up to that body line it should be enough space, or am i wrong ?

read the thread again
it is not too high

Don't worry, you can go way higher than that, you can pretty much cut off almost the entire panel as long as you leave enough to attach the overfender to. Less quarter panel = less metal to rust, haha.

yeah~ cut it up as much as you want!!
it's all thin metal anyways.
i think it depends on what kind of looks and set up u want.
rough rugged battle look ----> rivets!
smooth clean look----> cover them with filler, bondo and all the good stuff.
and i would say cut the fender as much as you can. then you can go low as you want if you want it lower after. you are going to cover it with wider fenders anyways.

Thats how we did it, the fenders will be cleaned, primed and sprayed soon also, i think i wouln't cut any higher, maybe i would cut 1/2inch lower next time:

that actually looks pretty clean. im guessing u tacked the skin and the cut off the rest.
did u seam weld just the rear wheel well or you got everything else too?
Behind Horizon
08-21-2007, 12:49 PM
Yeah i seam welded the rear arches from the inside, i also drilled holes and then spot welded it where it is possible.

To drill a pilot hole and fill with weld to get more penetration on the weld. Better strength.

here's how mine are, but this is a full time track car, so I'm not worried about crap getting up and into the interior. I have made a few aluminum panels to block the tire smoke but it still builds up in there like crazy. Yeah it was great for weight reduction though. I used chargespeed 50mm blister overfenders and couldn't say enough for them, the fitment is spot on. Yeah thought this might help...

Cut outter skin of fender off, then cut slits in inner skin, fold inners out and weld it up. The mock up fender and dril holes for rivets then rivet them on. and your done. It is really easy. I hope this makes sense.

Here's a post I book marked a few months ago.
http://www.zilvia.net/f/1512255-post28.html
Hope that helps man.
I wanna know what do you do when you are about to rivet the fender, do you just lay it on or do you put something in between the original fender and the over fender. Also, would any of you recommend painting the fender before install or afterwards?
EDIT: My bad those pictures don't work anymore. where made like 3 inches from the window haha.
