We have to play it safe and not lose 5K+ money.
But Saturday is still a go and it'll be fucking dope!

If you are new to drifting, real track its where it's at. You are hot lapping so you don't stop and you can fix your mistake at the next turn, or the next turn, or the next turn.
Its fucking awesome!

For those who keep asking for a Drift Buffet practice day, I would suggest you come to this one. We can't run the parking lots right now, but I would rather be at Buttonwillow any day. If you have never been to BW, then you haven't lived!
I'm sure we'll arrange for the beginners to run together so nobody gets upset or feels pressured.
Most of the top DB drivers will be there, if you need help learning.

Come in through the gate, you sign something and thats it.
FYI you guys will need to pay entrance fee to BW, not sure how much but last time i was there it was 10 bucks per person.
All the drivers also even me have to pay. fuck.

If you guys want a practice day, this is for you!
Buttonwillow is worth the drive. It is clean, safe, and fun. Beginners can make mistakes all day, and continually learn because you have 20-minute run groups.
What that means is that you don't take one run, screw it up, get frustrated, sit in line, wait, get nervous, then go back out, screw it up, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.
At BW, you get in a run group with other people who are at about the same skill level as you, and you take laps for 20 minutes. No stopping unless you want to for 20 minutes! You'll see so many different kinds of turns (fast, slow, tight, sweepers, whatever) and you'll get so much time behind the wheel that your skills are sure to improve! At Buttonwillow, you can always find a turn you like, and when you start killing it on that turn, you can apply what you learned to the other turns, and pretty soon you are drifting the whole course!
I would absolutely recommend this course if you want to work on your drifting skills! I'll be there too, working on mine!
There hasn't been an event at BW in a while, and there won't be again soon, so get it while you can!

It took me awhile to get a Buttonwillow weekend. Everyone has been asking me almost everyday of when we'll have another BW session.
I finally got a weekend and wanted to give everyone a chance to make it for the PROAM National, especially all the Norcal drivers. I even ask all the amateur organization if they wanted to participate on this whole deal just to have a DOPE OLD SCHOOL BUTTONWILLOW STYLE EVENTS...
I guess it didn't work but this will probably the only weekend this year for Buttonwillow that you can fully drift and it's sad that we wasted a sunday. :(
I hope you guys can come out on Saturday because you will not be disappointed.

best track day ever
as many of you noticed, we brought the LS1 FC, since we could not get the S14 done in time.
we left san jose at 11pm on friday after working most the day on S14 and then saying fuck it and prepping the FC at the last minute. we were towing the FC behind the Dirrty Van, which is the biggest piece of shit rapist van. it has no exhaust and the steering and brakes don't work that well. after a few stops, we got to the front gate at 4am and drank beer until the sun came up.
did tech and started lapping until the car sputtered and died. when luke tried starting it again, it exploded. oh yes, giant fireballs are so cool. luckily there was a 15lb fire extinguisher in the car.
pushed the car back to our pit, and found out the fuel line had popped off. luke was about to go buy a bottle of jager and spend the rest of the day drunk, but we decided to see if we could fix it instead. we got the fuel line back on and went over all the places where the harness look burned. it seemed okay so luke started the car...and it was fine! somehow the car was allowed back on the track and it was business as usual.
after we passed lost hills on the way back north, the van's steering got to the point of being extremely unsafe. it would sway back and forth and try to change lanes by itself. we pulled off to see what we could do. we considered driving the fc back and finding a truck to tow the van on its own trailer. how lame would that be? we had the idea of just unloading the car and seeing how bad the steering was with no weight pulling the front wheels up. as we unloaded the car, the front bumper broke in half. fuck. luke drove the van down this scary road and back, and determined that the van was safe (enough) to drive back. but then i noticed one of the tires was completely flat.
we drove the van and car 7 miles to the next gas station, which was brand new and did not have air yet. so two more miles to the next gas one, where we the air nozzle was broken. so we got a can of fix-a-flat and it worked well enough to get us all the way back home.
cliff's notes:
didn't get the s14 done, so we brought the fc.
the fc exploded, but we fixed it and finished the day.
the van's steering almost failed
and then it got a flat tire

Awesome event. Road courses are so much fun to drive, learned a lot this weekend.
But... many of you that did go missed out on the best part of the weekend.
Ill give you the short version:
After dinner, we (Al, Jay Pizarro, Stew (Johnny5), Calvin Wan, Jay Lapid, and a few others) decided to drive 30 some more miles down the road to a strip club.
Needless to say, being a town in the middle of nowhere is obviously going to have few hot strippers. We found a new place "Exotic Kitty" in Bakersfield.
First, we find out that its like $20 to get (kinda high for a small town IMO). The bouncer asks what we are doing in town and we explain that we were at the track in Buttonwillow. He asks if we do that "drifting" thing. We say yes, and I go "hey, this guy is a pro driver so can we get in for a discount (pointing to Calvin). The bouncer thinks for a second and goes if you have something to give me that I can give my kid Ill let you guys in for $15.00. So Calvin goes out to the truck and gets on of his trading cards with his pic and a pic of the G35 on it. So we're in for $15.00
But, it gets better...
We get in and the girls are horrible. Someone (might have been Jay Lapid) tells one of the staff that Calvin is getting married and that this was his bachelor party. Calvin has no clue until they call him up to the stage and put him in a chair where all these trashy girls dance all over him, including this big black girl that is aaaalll over him (we told them he likes big girls). Towards the end of the dances, Calvin notices the stripper pole in the middle of the stage spins and is pointing it out to us. Next thing you know Calvin is climbing the pole and gets all the way to the top. At this point we are all dying laughing.
It gets even better.... one of the girls starts spinning the pole while hes still at the top and Calvin goes spinning around the pole as hes coming down. Funniest shit ever!

I also like to thanks Luke for testing the car and for his pointers !! Sorry you guys had that much trouble should have given you my number since we were heading the same way, we saw you guys in lost hills when we had to get fuel, but good thing you guys made it home safe !!
Im happy you were able to get it dialed in. Seems like your car will rock once you actually have a front sway bar. lol
O yea the ride home totally sucked. Took us like forever, and was annoying when the front bumper on the fc got torn off. Once i get some money i will just get a whole new kit for that floppy little car.

Big thanks to Al and Jay and the Drift Battle staff. It was a whole big pile of Norcal guys, and our little band of Drift Buffet/WSC/Land Ho/Socal guys, but at least we came to rep, right? We all had a blast!
Hey Andrew, if I had known you were going to take pics right then, I would have kicked the camera guy out and gotten her sideways through that off-ramp! But from Auto Otaku, I got a new favorite picture of my car!

But seriously, thanks to all you NorCal guys for putting this together. I'm sorry more SoCal groups didn't support this event like they said they would. Drift Buffet is down to support Drift Battle anytime if you ever decide that you really do want a comp!

Good point. I was a bit more conservative than most since its the first track event I've done... well that's not compeltely true (Altamont) but it was a great event and I had fun out there just being able to open it up or attempt to slide w/out worry about legal ramifications. I got a lot of aggression out on the track and it was great.
There's so much more to be said about the ability to really let it go on a track compared to a parking lot event. Both are beneficial to the beginniner but its so nice to just go non-stop for 30 minutes straight. As Al mentioned earlier in this post, you try a turn and if you mess up there's another one right there and if you mess that one up, you just keep going.
Its nice to see a lot of the NorCal people show up, and compared to those drives out to Balcony (5-6 hrs), this drive along I-5 is much easier to bear.

Best thing ever, riding with matt we pull off the track and matt goes "I think he's supposed to make sure my cars ok" so he asks john to do so and john grabbed everything and shook the entire front end that was ziptied on like headlights and brackets ect. and says "yeah everything thing seems fine, your good to go" lol

I had a teaching credential test on saturday and I just wanted to do the proam comp. A lot of the JD people wasted all their money at the ziptied all star bash. In addition to that, JD people are dedicated to the Top Drift Battle series so people have to make sure they have money to compete in it, especially when you have a chance to go to proam nationals at the end of the year. On top of this, a lot of the JD cars aren't running right now and a lot of people are broke or saving money. My best friend chris has rod knock, aaron had to spend $2500 on repairing his truck, lindsay's car isn't running, logan is broke from ASB and going SR, Brian needs to save up for an SR, etc. Nobody boycotted it.
This event just happened at the wrong time for a lot of the JD guys. I know I really wanted to go back and compete at BW. I've supported Al's private events for a long ass time and I'll still continue to support him. Just happened at a bad time that's all.

You young kids from norcal need to keep it cool and chill out. Most of the badass cars in socal are owned by dudes with good jobs in their mid-20's to low-30's and we've been building them for longer than you've had your drivers licenses. Even if someone has their car being paid for by their parents, that's no reason to make fun of them. You do whatever it takes to get you out on the track and you earn respect from other people by driving like a badass.

haha what the fuck is this norcal socal battle. why do garages fight here,
CANT CALIFORNIA JUST GET ALONG? YOU GUYS ARE ALL NUTS!
the vex guys were good but shitty wheel/tire combos are holding them back big time, start investing in newer tires for better consistency and you will find yourself advancing much faster imo.
you're right....
FUCK TEXAS!

LoL. Why all the hatred peoples. Does it really matter? Seriously, who gives a shit anyways. Drifting is for fun. I could see if you were in Formula D or D1 and were actually competing for something. Ya'll need to get a grip.
