View Full Version : COP pulls me over... F*@K California and REF tickets!!!
UPTOWN

So the other night working all night to change out the starter and then my clutch goes bad. So we're ordering a new clutch and I go out to the shop to pick up some parts when a cop pulls me over. well the rest is history and now i have a ref ticket.
for those of you in Orange County I was in Huntington Beach on Brookhurst and Garfield.
The cop was actually pretty nice and specifically stated their looking for these types of vehicles b/c alot of them have illegal engines. He didn't think mine was a swap but said the shiny intake pipe (intercooler) looked like it was not stock so here is a ref.
oh well... worst case scenario.... swap out the SR20 w/ the KA and then go RB?? ionno.
Both my loves and my financial burdens.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/UpTownIS300er/Photo-0059.jpg
Mine and my cousins doing a bit of this n that..... I think we're trying to get tighten a bolt here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/UpTownIS300er/Photo-0065.jpg
my idiot cousin says "Hey atleast now you can get rid of the SR and put in an RB"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/UpTownIS300er/Photo-0066.jpg
and this is a special treat b/c my other little cousin is the uber ghey!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/UpTownIS300er/gaydoug.jpg
PWNge?
PS. Any "oh SR's are illegal" and "you can't get out of a ref ticket" comments are appreciated but not needed... i pretty much know I got alot of sh*T set forth to take care of.
end of rant.

well ur car does stand out with the kit and nic epaintjob. that prolly attracts a bit of attention. if u search up a lotta ppl get out of it with only a few hundred dollar fine. which is as much or less than what youll spend on a KA and your time swapping it.
hope everything works out.

really sorry to hear it. That is my biggest fear...I try to do everything right as in only racing at the track and all. But it is also my daily driver.
So the idea that there are all these ass holes out there getting "HYPHY" and swinging um' all out in the street and dont get in trouble...and I can be on my way to work and get pulled over for a blinker or something and eather get a ticket like that or worse, get my car impounded just sucks.

That is not against the law...well...the parts that are, the cop did not know about at the time of pull over. Unless he has amazing brain power.
I MEAN WHAT DID HE SAY HE PULLED HIM OVER FOR. THAT IS OBVIOUS...TOO LOW? TOO LOUD? understand?
My 240sx is modid...have a roll cage and completly gutted with no tint...I pass by a few cops here and there living downtown and all and only get a glanc once in a wile. *knock on wood*
Where you driving "funny" at all?

Did you get cited for gay wheels too?
Haha funny to hear your .02 cents. I appreciate your expertise... The wheels are on back of my list as I have plenty of other work on both vehicles to do before I'll even care about what others think about the wheels. The wheels actually came w/ the car and I'll leave them be right now until I'll have enough reason to put on the other wheels.
PS but incase wheels are that much more important to you all..... rest assured that offset is my #1 priority w/ my wheels.
while you are doing this..get rid of that gawdy front bumper. as per the front bumper... I actually like it but yes I do plan on sourcing out another kit to suit a more progressive theme.
Thank you to all those that have given positive advice, I really appreciate your help. I have my sources and will have this ref ticket taken care of so I'm not too worried, and like i said.... worst case scenario: i'll just swap out the motor. It is definitely interesting to hear that some people just dismissed the ref ticket and paid the fine. I'll have to source out my resources to look into these loop holes.

what exactly did they write on the ticket? You can pay it off. Just wait for the invoice in the mail and look at how much it is. mine was like $480 something for "removed smog device"

That lexus in the bg looks pretty clean.
As for your car... That harbor freight jack looks hot.
I mean the way your car looks, you kinda have to expect to be pulled over.
Being pulled over by the cops is just part of the territory.
Should've set your car on fire so the fire department would've came down and join the party. j/k
just wait for the ticket in the mail and pay the fine. doesn't everyone know this trick?

That's a whole lotta sourcin' going on.
And yeah, expect to get your hood popped with an oversized silver front-mount IC poking out of your bumper unless you're driving an EVO. It's bad enough to be driving a 240 these days -- you should do all you can to not attract more attention.
UPTOWN
06-28-2006, 10:40 AM
simple enough.... i just dont drive my 240 very often. Its mostly in the garage torn apart anyways... I drive the lexus daily and hopefully in a few months this whole craze will die down. Either way, i'm not worried.
I asked the police officer if he would mind me taking pictures of the car. He was like "are you serious?"
Just wait till he gets a "change of venue" in the bay area and then failure to appear delay.

Thanks, it was Onyx black but I was unhappy w/ the perception of depth so I had the entire car repainted to Bentley Buloga Black as the paint looks like you can reach into it. I like the glossy depth look vs the wet mirror look.
The 240 was the maroon color and was painted Auburn red, very similar colors but I think the color came out nicely. Not too in your face but definitely not boring.

LMAO
Man, its sad that its come to this. Cops are pulling people over left and right just to inspect the cars for illegal mods and engines. Last week when I was going home on PCH, they pulled every car over that had rims, exhaust, etc. They were inspecting stuff, even my friend's elise got pulled over. Im surprised they didnt pull me over when I was driving the XB. Ill have to spray my FMI black now just to be safe.
TheSquidd
06-28-2006, 04:09 PM
Do what I did, get a custom exhaust made with 2 axle-backs, 1 stockish , 1 straight pipe. The stockish one is pretty quiet, well under 95db. I can now legally refuse to pop my hood as my exhaust is NOT illegal. I have cops come flying down the freeway behind me, almost skid to a halt next to me, stare at me for like 5 minutes running my plates and everything, inspecting my car, and then drive off.
UPTOWN
06-28-2006, 04:12 PM
yeah the officer actually said something along the lines of they are looking for these type of modified vehicles as they usually have illegal modifications on the vehicle.
I wish they'd spend more time busting people that actually drive like idiots & race on the streets. w/ the pot holes and dips on our streets that tax money is supposed to fix..... i wouldn't drive hard on city streets and mess up my cars. I'll save that for when I take her to the track.

Anyway, mabe I should spray my FMIC now too, and tint my windows. Other then my wheels everything else would apear to be stock. And the wheels are not godie at all anywyas.
Even my exuast is a 3 downpipe, midpipe, but the cat back portion is RSR and looks like a stock pipe. Also quiter then the HKS unit I had.

I'm not in any of the pics in there. The guy in there is my younger cousin. I am 25 and have a decent paying fun job. I'll be damned if I let a ref ticket take away my personal hobby.
I dont consider people really bagging on me b/c at the end of the day its my car and I'll do what i want with it, how I want it, and in the order that suits my need. I only plan on keeping the car for a year or so, as its only a neat project for my cousin and I to keep us busy while I'm waiting for my real toy to arrive. Plus its just nice that we both have 240's to swap around parts.
The car is only in its beginning stages. Wheels, i've got covered and so I do not need to justify why I'm rolling around w/ weak offsets while the car is still in the garage being worked on. I'm still in the process of working on the drivetrain and suspension. Next engine, then interior, and then get cracking on the aesthetics. ETA?.... probably in about 2-3 months. I've only had the 240 for less then 1 month so I suppose you can consider me a :newbie: at this whole game.
But thank you to everyone for your kind words, I look forward to meeting some of you at meets and such. I travel quite a bit so hopefully I will get to meet some east coast members also.

I swapped it b/c my goal is to run 350-420 rwhp w/ good weight distribution and it was either this or the RB but I figured i'd sacrifice a bit of weight by going w/ the RB so I went SR instead. In all honesty I think it'd be cheaper to meet my goals w/ the RB25 as far as power is concerned. I never asked for sympathy or advice.... this thread is purely for some chuckles and the awareness that police are specifically gunning for us.
as stated before, I knew full well of the consequences and I am infact ready to handle those consequences. I'll be damned if I let a Referee ticket take keep me from one of my few hobbies.. btw Ref ticket is already taken care of.

Hey guys i have an apointment with the state ref tomorrow for not having my carb sticker on my aem intake. I couldnt find the sticker at home so i put the stock air box back in. My question is i have a catback on the car right now and i was wondering if i should swap out the catback to stock? They shouldnt care about the exhaust if my ticket was only for a illegal intake right? they shouldnt fail me cuz i have an exhuast on the car correct?
FRpilot
07-19-2006, 05:41 PM
^^^
your catback should be fine as long as its under the legal sound limit and you are running a catalytic converter. in fact, while you're there i think bar ref can give you a certificate to certify that your catback is legal if its under the legal sound limit so if a cop pulls you over for exhaust you can just show them the certificate and tell them to fuck off.

I got pulled over there too. Funny thing is that the cop didnt mention anything about my RSR exmag. He did give me a fix it for my bluish parking lights. What sucked was that there was a louder and more modified RX7 in front of me. The bike cop totally ignored it.
