Your car scared me, and everyone else when you started it. I thought wheels were gonna fall off your pretty display cases.

Real nice clean ride and cool to be different, but not really my thing. I find it a little insulting to the 240.

Excellent work, I wish I could hear it run! I guess I'm not the only one wondering why you went with the ford v8 over the chevy though?

ford v8 = cheap
and i will try and get sound clips..
i'm gonna try and be a track whore w/ the car anywhere and everywhere =)

Also, i bet he found it fit easier, the distributer is in the front of the engine, chevy is back, so he probably got better weight bias with the ford as well......

I overheard Josh talking about the convienance of the engine's parts location while I was at the Drift Unit BBQ.

Why did you put a motor that puts out less HP stock then an SR?
Silverbullet

cuz NA is best son.
Oh can't forget theres no replacement for displacement either.

When do you plan on testing the car?

Jokes on you....LS1 is individually coiled....If you went LT1 then its a problem...
i'm putting a rear dist chevy v8 (from a 69 vette, L48 i think?) in a cressida. the weight balance is going to be SO bad, i'll probably have to shred the firewall.
but its a 350!! 300hp stock! whoo

No i think he put the ford engine in there because its alot cheaper than chevy, parts are dirt cheap, and it makes a decent amount of torque.
I would stay away from those motors though. They tend to come apart very easily, and the oiling system is not sufficient to maintain high rpms. There are ways of fixing that though. www.cantonracing.com
Im interested to see what the weight difference is. Last time i checked it was about double the weight of an ls1 from what i remember.

Well Asad from Fresh Alloy mentioned that an all aluminum Ford 302 engine (alum block I think, heads, accessories and brackets, etc) weighed about the same as the KA24DE.
So depending on if Josh's engine has aluminum parts or iron/steel parts, it might be just a tad heavier than the KA.

I dont know about your car, but I seriously doubt the 240 will lose any sleep over it.

Did you do the fabrication work yourself on this engine swap? i.e. brackets, mounts, etc... Good job.

Damn i gotta get a V8 when the SR gives up the ghost. LS1 costs about 10 G's to get it rolling (engine, tranny, kit, labor). This swap about the same in $$$?
orion::S14
06-26-2006, 08:32 AM
^^^ No F'in way.
Running 302 = $500
Running LS1 = $2500
...and you can swap in either motor with a little fabrication skill and a welder.
Now if you had a shop do it for you (ala Hinson)...then yeah, $9,000-10,000.

hey luke...
when is the next event up here?
i need to figure out when to tow it..
let me know...
also.. reason for swap is cheap
also..
a stock sr makes like 200 hp
how is that more power than a stock 5.0
mr_240sx
06-26-2006, 10:53 AM
so what are you running for power wise josh? any mods done to the motor or is it stock?
S14DB
06-26-2006, 11:01 AM
Stock 5.0 barely makes 175hp. Can get it upto 190hp with bolt ons.

that just doesnt sound right, r u sure? i figured it would atleast be around 200 or a little bit more....
drew935
06-26-2006, 12:50 PM
Isn't it 175hp to the wheels. I could have sworn that that engine does 225hp at the engine. So 175 at the wheels sounds right or so...With what I saw in the engine bay, I would say close to 190+ at the wheels.

5.0L Cobra EFI 235hp http://www.mustangspecs.com/years/93.shtml
Thre HP of the 5.0 has changed a lot over the years. The later engines got up over 200 HP but the early 5.0's got under 160 HP stock.

car looked cool at the meet, looked like alot of fab work went into it. It looked like you had to have a custom oil pan made and the location of the shifter location looked really awkward. all in all, good job on the swap, are you going to the drift event at altamont on the 6th. If not bring it out on a friday and tear it up.

I would say go to the friday test days. They are a bit pricy at $150 but you usually have as much track time as you would like.
