S14: Door lock issue

So about a week and a half ago the locks on my doors on my '98 SE decided to not work properly. They will lock no problem, but they WILL NOT UNLOCK anymore. So now I have to disarm my alarm and then put my key in the door to unlock it. Big pain in the ass at night, when raining, opening the door for a lovely lady, etc.
Do any of yall have any ideas as to what's caused this, how to fix it, or anything else? Again, they have no problem locking, but they won't unlock at all and I have to manually do it.

It's frustrating the hell outta me.

Thanks in advance guys.

I am having something of the same problem.. is it happening on both doors? I haven't messed with it just yet however, this may sound stupid but before I get out of the car I manually lock the car doors before I get out that way they open.. What is happening with mine is that the doors are locking however the manual lock isn't going down all the way so I have to push it down fully to make sure that it will unlock. If I don't push it down fully and it is still kinda suck up when I go to unlock it it wont unlock and it pisses me off. I have a 95 S14.. (short term fix for now) however I am sure something needs to be lubricated.. Hope this helps..

Aftermarket alarm or stock alarm?

Power locks still work on the inside?

It's a Viper alarm, if I use the inside switches it will still lock but WILL NOT unlock, so I don't think it has to do with the alarm system.
Manually unlocking my driver's door is now a pain in the ass because it never seems to want to unlock. I think I'm gonna throw some WD-40 in that atleast to smooth it out.

I think the lock latches just wear out over time tbh. On my 96(manual locks) if you try to unlock from the drivers door from the inside the latch will open about 95% and stop but feels and looks completely open.

Its not until I push it the extra 5% does it unlock.

Problem solved.

Kidding, no I know it's frustrating. Still haven't figured it out. Maybe it's the OEM actuator? Our cars are only 13+ years old.

i worked for a lexus dealership for almost 4 years and i saw problems like this on cars that are newer. usually, it`s the door lock actuators. the electric motors get weak or stop working completely.

Sorry I know this thread is a little old, but I am running into the same problem on my 97 SE and also have a viper alarm... Not sure if that has anything to do with it but this started happening about a year ago with the driver side door it locked and would not unlock, then all of a sudden wouldn't stay closed. A friend of mine got it functioning (I believe by sheer luck), but now my passenger door has locked itself closed and will not open (for about 8+ months now)

My fab shop friend and I have done and tried just about everything to get this door off, short of unbolting it from the fender / cutting it off. Does anyone have any insight on how to potentially get this open? It is becoming more of an option to cut the damn thing off and make our own fastener at this point I just want it to open.

Also I have searched around and haven't found much info on the latching mechanism itself does anyone know if an S13 latch will work on the S14 door? It doesn't necessarily have to bolt on but just has the actuators in similar places.

^^^ man your situation is just terrible. i think it would be more cost effective to break the plastic door panels to gain access to the rods that control your lock mechanism.

So my issues with the door is similar, but not exactly like anyones so far. my driver door is the worst. it wont lock by electric nor manual methods. i have to light candles and do some indian rain dance in order for it to lock. It will not unlock electrically, even from the passenger door, and also will not unlock from the key outside the door. the only way that still does work is when i crawl through and manually unlock it from the inside. I used to be able to lock and unlock the passenger via electric switch, but not any more. I am considering taking to the dealership to ask them to figure it out. OR just getting ALL new locking mechanisms and replacing everything.

Unfortunately, I have gained access to the locking machanisms on the inside of the door, and it still will not unlock/open. If I were you, i would make sure thay you get something done, and quick cuz there is no telling what is gunna happen. I had a very similar problem on my drivers side door as well, luckily it hasnt welded itself shut yet. I just bought a passenger side door and I'm prbly gunna have to cut the existing door off.

[PHP][/I don't mean to bring up a dead post but I've recently just came across the same problem on my 98 SE.
I was working on my clutch pedal one day and when I finished, my car would not unlock by Viper remote nor the unlock switch on either doors. When I went back to check the area I was working on I noticed an exposed wire right above the left foot kick panel has snapped in two, I could've sworn I never came in contact with that wire but I guess I have to have touched it somehow to snap it apart. I pinched the two ends of wires together by finger and I can unlock my car again. So thought I'd drop in a possible solution for people who are still having this issue.
