Muffler
Does it really matter horsepower wise on the muffler? If I were to get a muffler and get custom piping would it make that much of a difference from getting a whole exhaust. I want to get this muffler but i dont know much about the company. If anybody knows about this muffler or how it sounds please give me some info on it. or your opinions on custom exhaust and full cat back exhaust from a company.

I wouldn't get it, it probably sounds bad. The muffler will pretty much determine the sound.(I think)

I've heard good things about Megan exhausts from the Sentra crowd.
Almost any exhaust will sound good on a KA. Sound has more to do with the engine, and cams than anything else. I've NEVER heard a KA that sounded bad, and I've heard a LOT of exhausts. if your worried about it, throw a resonator in the piping. I don't think it will be necessary though with their silencer in. edit - this "Made by true aluminum stainless steel" would kind of worry me though.. WTF does that mean?!!?

I heard that muffler..not bad...and worth 70 bucks.
70 bucks..I burn more gas than that per month...don't like it..sell it! The other thing that is cool with that muffler is for the very cheap..the removable silencer..and you can drill holes in it and mod it if you like. It is not a fart muffler..almost too damn loud without the silencer. You can mod that silencer to have a good balanced sound. Unfortunantly , the dude that had one...well it is laying on the road somewhere....he scraped it off in traffic due to it being large and his car lowered. YR, get it for the dough...otherwise do some more searching. I like a performance oval with dual pipes out the back. I also like deep and quiet. |

Naw man! Get a whistler tip! Woo! Woo!
I've heard a pretty bad 240 that sounded like a fart train. But then again, he had an invader bumper on it. So it was expected. Yeah I've really only thought of mufflers my self. I don't need a full exhaust for N/A car. I was either thinking of a Kei Office axle back, like a nice stealty type one that would only produce noise when the car produced power. Or if I do go the road of a muffler, maybe the JIC canister. Ehh I dunno, it won't happen for a while. I wouldn't count on that muffler. Get a muffler that's meant for your car. One w/hangers already welded for the specific application. The welds on that muffler look alright. But I grant you the sound might hurt. But if you like it, go for it!

it's really not a good idea to have friends co-sign for you.. something happens, even if it's out of yoru control.. say, you DIE. Then your friend is stuck paying your debts. Not cool.

Why not just save up and get a full exhaust. You can get a full cat-back URAS exhaust for under $ 350.00 or so.

my car came with a muffler 'upgrade.' personally i think its fuggin gay as hell. its louder for the people INSIDE the car then the people outside. if you're driving around with the stock muffler then you really don't know how annoying it is. imagine a forty minute drive with a constant buzzing drone vibrating your ears sitting right behind your head. its just for looks. maybe it adds a little bit of HP but is it worth it? no, especially if you're planning on just buying the muffler and chop shop welding it to the stock cat-back. save your money for a real performance mod, or better yet, use that cash and take ur car to the track. if you're really serious about performance, do more meaningful upgrades first (brakes?); then save up and get a full exhaust system like s14wannabe said.

I was going to get this muffler and a resonater and then get custom piping? Would it be too loud with the silencer out of the muffler? Whould it be better to get an apex n1 since they are so cheap instead of going through with the worry of getting custom piping and all that stuff? I have also been considering the GReddy TR Power Evolution ll , its a nice looking exhaust and its fairly cheap too. I dont want to spend too much over $600 for an exhaust. Would the Greddy exhaust be a good exhaust for NA for awhile till i eventualy get an sr swap? thanks for the input.

Does anybody know where I can get the GReddy TR for less than $519.99 plus shipping? I was looking at buying it from Enjuku racing, they gave me a deal last time I ordered form them and I was very pleased with the serivice. They said it would set me back about $45 for shipping. If anybody knows anything more about this please reply. Thanks

whatever you do, make sure you get a resonator. i made the mistake of having my resonator removed when i got my catback done... (magnaflow, 2.5" dual dtm tips on 2.25" piping) and... yeah, the drone is incredibly annoying. yes, it sounds great above 3500 rpms. but on the highway, it's set right at about 3000, where it just drones on and on. thank god i have a loud stereo to cover it up. but i'd really just like some peace and quiet sometimes... so, i'm having the piping redone with two resonators. it'll look good, sound... really ****ing quiet.

2) It might. If the custom piping is perfomred using mandrels and is fitted perfectly to the muffler such a retail cat-back and the piping diameter is what a retail brand would be, then the only difference would be the cost. 3) I have seen the Megan products in use on one guy's 240 here. It sounds pretty good, it's a fireball copy. $65 cheaper as well. He seems to like it and even has the silencers. 4) If the price of a custom was better than that of a retail and the quality was on par, I would take the custom. Again, it would need to be mandrel bent, not crush bent, restrictive flow. |

i have that exact same muffler, i had 2.5 inch piping put on after the cat, it sounds really good, not like the bumblee bee sounds other generic mufflers make, it sounds really good at around 3-5k rpm's, with the silencer on, it sounds like a stock muffler, i just happened to slap a Apexi sticker on the side, haha, its worth the 60 bucks Ebay is selling it for, thats where i bought mine from

Ummmmggg...You right..cheap good and ready..
BTW, Midas has them for about 20% off retail...as their "performance muffler"...I been running it...but actually I am exceeding it now..time to go to the larger unit toward the 1700CFM output ...to keep this hissing beside cars beside me "down"...mine was good..now restrictive..I am pumping serious air! I am now exceeding the capacity of the muffler and they definitly got a fix for that...with the same deep sound. I like ummm. |

My car has custom half inch oversize pluming from the collector back, a catalytic converter from a Pontiac Grand Prix GT (larger engine, flows better..picked it up at a junkyard for 20 bucks) a resonator and all this leads into the stock muffler.
I noticed the sound is gruntier, like a bigger engine, then I re-plumbed the intake into the fender well, removing the resonator box for an intakey kind of sound. Its still semi quiet but its a nice deep tone and powerful sounding which is what I wanted. Big fat chrome tips never appealed to me and neither do weed-whacker noises. So it seems good if thats what your after and it all cost something like $100 bucks max
