Removing back seat support of a vert? Bad idea?

Basically the thing with the red circles drawn on it. Looking at the way it's mounted, I don't see that this piece is significant, other than weight. Where it attaches around the sides and behind, it looks as if it's just for the back seat support and not any sort of structural rigidity. Am I correct?

I want to remove this whole thing so my interior looks cleaner and it'll probably be a good chunk of weight. I'm getting a roll bar made for the car in a few weeks.

Matt

It won't affect the car enough to notice especially if you get a roll bar in there. Just wait until you go to get the roll bar done to take it out if you are worried about it.

I cut out everything back there on my vert and put a cage. Your car is a coupe with no.roof so that stuff is all extra. Cut it out, cage and done.

That's pretty much what I figured, I wanted a second opinion on it though, lol.

What are you going on about extra? The stuff they added is there for a reason, the car has no roof. Now the seat brace does not do much, but take that box and all the other stuff out and car will be real flimsy, its not extra. OP is only talking about a roll bar, a 4pt it would seem. That will not replace all that bracing like a full cage would.
