89 S13 check engine light question

Ok so I've searched and didn't find much, only a YouTube video but that's to wire one in.

Anyways, I have an 1989 5SPD 240SX with the stock KA24E and HUD, I was replacing the light bulbs in the gauge cluster with LEDs when I noticed there were two bulbs missing, on my cluster there are two spots that don't have a symbol for anything I know one of them is supposed to be for a check engine light but mine doesn't have the check engine light symbol, so I was replacing the bulbs and when I turned the key to see how bright everything was with the LEDs I noticed I put the bulb from oil light into the wrong slot and noticed the blank spot now had a yellow glow, I started the car and the yellow light turned off as if it was the check engine light coming on like the rest of the lights on the cluster right before you start the car.

now I have read that 1989 and 1990 240sx that weren't produced for Cali had no check engine light and thats why they didn't have the symbol on the gauge cluster, I am the second owner of the car and the person who had it before I bought it was from Texas and bought it new in 1989 (i have every record and paperwork from the original owner proving this) he moved to Cali and traded it in in 2001 about a week before I bought it, so I know it wasn't tampered with

My main question is, now that the light turns on when starting the car along with all the other lights, is it in fact the check engine light? What can I disconnect to make a check engine light up? And if it indeed does light up, can I reset it with the ECU like is I was checking for ECU codes?

Here are the pics of what I'm talking about

IDK what that means, but if you put the ecu in diagnostic mode, it should blink the check engine light with codes. I don't think it'll work for single cams, my bad! You could try pulling a code 12 AFM and see what happens.

Well if the light on the dash is indeed a check engine light, and comes on, when I check the diagnostic codes from the ECU's lights and reset it, wil it also shut off the "check engine" light on the gauge cluster?

I think so, but not sure. That's why I said manually throw a code 12 mafs and check it out.
disconnect the mafs start the car, try to rev, get the 2500rpm limit. See if the light comes on? If it does hooray, if not check the ecu for stored codes anyway, reset ecu, turn ign off, plug mafs back in. start car, rev up! check ecu for codes even if the light is not lit.

Just read your FSM. Don't have one, download one.

Throw the ECU into diagnostic mode. If you get that same bulb blinking with the ECU's light, then voila. You have a functioning CEL.

If not, then the bulb is simply wired in to turn on like all other idiot lights and simply shut off when not active.

Example; if you leave your seat belt off your light will stay on, but eventually after a while it will turn off with the seat belt being off.

Mine is like this too until i actually turn on the car then all the lights turn off except the seatbelt light and brake light . I have a coupe with a hud and its a '92 coupe. Any solutions to your situation? Im new to 240's so it'll help and give me some type of closure lol.
